Question
Default revenue activity in the sales contract is not recognized, when copying the sales contract. Must enter it manually. Is this the standard behavior of the system?
I’ve got same behaviour in IFS Cloud 24R1 which is also a problem for us : we would like use Sales Contract Copy to have all elements definied in advance, but of course project ID is changing for each Sales Contract. :(
Does someone had same issue ? And had find out a workaround :) ?
NOTA : If I remember well this behaviour was not occuring in Apps 10.
Could you please help me to understand your expected result a bit better.
I am curious as to if you were expecting the system to, a) automatically pull in the Project and Activity details to line level in revision and items page based on what you defined on the Sales Contract > Project Tab OR b) you wanted to save the line just with a Report code without adding Project and a Revenue Activity to the line? (not sure why you’d want this - if this is the case)
It must be noted that even when you create a Sales Contract from the scratch (i.e., without using the copy functionality) and define the ‘default revenue’ activity under Sales Contract > Project tab, system does not pull these in to the line level automatically (given if this was what you were expecting when copying and manually setting the default project ID + Activity).
On the other hand in Revision and Items page when you try to enter/modify any other value (e.g., Sales Value) except the ‘Report Code’ and/or Project details fields system let’s you save the line without an issue.
But if you try to save the line just with Report Code it will throw in the same error that you’ve shown in your test results. As in this instance I believe system goes and checks for a Revenue activity to make the connection and to validate if the report code is set and valid against this activity.
Since there is a validation where the report code that gets entered in the line must exist as a valid report code on the revenue activity defined. Consequently if there is no ‘Revenue Activity’ set on the line level system will throw in an error notifying the user that Project ID (and indirectly the Activity) is mandatory so that it can perform the said validation. Since if you attempt to save the line with Report Code and just with Project ID without the Sub Project and Activity, following error will pop up and request to enter those two details as well.
Moreover, this report code and activity combo is required so that system can post the ‘planned revenue’ or prepare to post the planned revenue (depending on the ‘report planned revenue’ toggle status and Revision status).
On the flip side if you enter the Project details and try to save the line without entering the ‘Report Code’ you will get a different error message and system prevents you from saving it. I believe it is the same logic as above that gets triggered this time as well, since system is trying to make validation to make the connection against a project.
Hence, it seems to me that this is IFS standard behavior to prevent users from saving a line without the Project details and with report code and Vise versa. (i.e., In the Revision and Items page, under ‘Items’ users have to have both ‘Report Code’ and ‘Project’ + “Activity short Name/Sequence)” to be able to save the line.
Please note that I mused 24R2 SU3 to recreate your test scenario and my findings and opinions are based on the same.
Hope this helps in some way.
Also, I am curious as to if you’ve created an IFS ticket for this separately and has gotten a resolution.
