Hi all,

We met one issue that every time updating the quantity for a Schedule work item details (one sub item),

the cost rate is updated also. But we didn’t get the relationship or calculation rule.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi @emma_buyer,

When you update project estimates from the Schedule of Work, the system recalculates activity-level estimates and applies them to your project. This is done using the Update Project Estimate command on the Schedule of Work Value Summary page.

Key Points:

  • Prerequisites:
    • Estimates must be calculated using the Calculate Value function.
    • The Schedule of Work Estimate must be in Approved status.
  • System Effect:
    • Activity estimates are updated based on calculated values in the Schedule of Work.
    • All item lines must be connected to a cost or revenue element.
  • Updated estimates can be viewed in:
    • Project Estimate Update Overview
    • Project Estimate Update Detail
    • Project Monitoring

Why does the cost rate change when quantity changes?

In IFS, cost rates often depend on:

  • Calculation rules defined in the Schedule of Work (e.g., cost per unit).
  • Resource or labor cost elements linked to the work item.
  • If the cost element uses a unit-based calculation, changing quantity will proportionally affect the cost rate.
