Source cost element 501 with fixed factor of 100%

In the Element Factor field, change the default (100.00%) if desired. This is used if you selected a predefined cost element in the Source Element field and defines the percent of the source's costs to be absorbed by the new cost element.  This field is mandatory if you used another cost element as a source.
Note: For cost elements where source element is 601,501,502,230 & 141, the element factor will be 100% and not possible to change.

I want to know what the reason is that it cannot be changed.

When you want to work with PART SPECIFIC material overheads you have to use the source element 501.

With part specific material overhead you can have ONE cost bucket (and ONE cost element) used for an unlimited number of parts, each with different material oh %-factors. Many years back, if users wanted to differentiate their material overheads, they had to create an awful lot of of cost buckets (and elements) and also Cost Templates.

In the costing design it has to be a source cost element under the hood when you define an overhead cost bucket - it is just the way it is. And when it comes to 141, 230, 501, 502 and 601 we just have this approach. Actually it would be confusing to be able to change the element factor for these “guys”.
