Hello

Is there a work instruction for serialization of purchase parts please? We would like to trial this for a few purchase parts in our test environment.

The parts will be used assembly of a rail grinder.

Thanks

Be aware when once a Part has been set up as serialized and then received. You cannot turn off the serialization later for this part. IFS 10 version.

Under the Part, you can switch from manual to automatic serial. Allowing you to either enter your own number or let IFS create one for you.

I can say that Serialization involves assigning a unique identifier or serial number to a specific part or product. This allows for traceability throughout the supply chain and can be useful for tracking inventory, managing warranties, and identifying counterfeit or faulty products.

I have found IFS allows the same serial number to be used across different part numbers. This can be confusing if only searching by serial number alone.

This could potentially cause your system to have many of the serials if you have automatic serial switched on. You can reserve and put rules in place for serial parts - this is another option in IFS.

You need to search on both the part number and serial to be specific, otherwise you will receive multiple results to sort through.

Thank you for the response. We have enough notes on pros and cons of serialization. We also know how to enable it and from which stage it cannot be reversed.

We also understand that serial # will be required every time the part is received or moved and it must be done accurately.

We also have an end to end process flow of a standard part’s journey when used in a shop order.

It will be great to get a process flow of a serialized part’s life cycle in case it is any different.
