Mixed UoM's on Recipe Structure

Currently all of our raw material and finished parts use gallons as their UoM.  However given a change in our process, we have a need to reflect some of our raw materials as pounds or gallons, depending on the finished product.  We would like to create an alternate recipe that would be used to reflect pounds on the shop order by multiplying the finished product lot size on a shop order x the Qty per Assembly x the density factor on the inventory part.  Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, what settings on the recipe alternate are relevant and what value should we choose.

Currently it is not possible to define different alternates using different UoM for the components. On the shop orders created, the UoM will always be in the inventory unit of measure for the component. There is a field on the component line on the structure where you can define a Print UoM. Currently that field only allows to be in the same base UoM as the UoM on the component, but for IFS Cloud 21R2, we plan to open it up to be possible to define that in other Base UoM and use the density and weight to calculate the value. Anyway the Print UoM field is only shown on Pick Lists etc.

Another way is to use the Input UoM Group that you can first define in basic data, and then set up on the Inventory Part. Then when issuing material and receiving the produced part, you can issue and receive in different UoM and it will be converted into the Inventory part UoM. But for a scenario like this, you will need to define one Input UoM group per component, since it does not use the density or the weight of the part. Input UoM group is old functionality, but support to issue and receive shop orders was added in Apps 10.
