You can add maximum of 20 characters.

There is a client validation. Hence you can’t add more than 20. There will not be an error it just omit any characters that appear after 20th.

As Jagath mentioned the limit for Lot batch number is 20.

You could test this by going into 

1. Create a inventory part [ With lot tracking enabled]
2. Receive inventory part window
3. Try to add the lot batch number, notice the system will not allow you to add more than 20 characters.
4. As seen in my example below the lot batch number 123456789ABCDEFGHIJK (20 characters).                                                                                                                                               This would answer your questions and would verify the answer that is provided.            Best Regard, Praveen Wijetunge.
