Expected Lead Time Date in Inventory Part is using Distribution calendar given in the Site to decide the next working day of the site and then it counts number of days required based on the Purchasing lead time. This is normally calculated in the Calculate Purchase Leadtime window but also is an user editable field so here we have given the User convenience to define approximate number of days based on the Supplier lead time plus other overheads.

In MRP we do some precise calculation counting from MRP Run Start date and Event date considering site distribution calendar for purchased parts.

It seems the syetm uses the general calendar to calculate the expected date instead of the distribution calendar. 

If the distribution calendar is considered to determine the expected date, then shouldn't it be the same date as the event date calculated by MRP?

If I’m not mistaken Invent is also looking at Site distribution calendar which is general one for purchased parts. 

Reason for difference is, if there is not any primary supplier for the part, MRP is looking at the distribution calendar for the whole lead time period. But Invent is using calendar just to find the next working day and then it just add the lead time into that particular site date. 

However MRP is more precise because if there is a primary supplier for the part, then MRP will calculate the Leadtime considering supplier manufacturing lead time, inspection lead time, external and internal transport lead times. This direct calculation happens only when there is not any primary supplier for the part in MRP.
