Hi,
Just wonder if you have explored Master Scheduling here for the top DOP parts. You know Master Scheduling will not create Shop Order Requisitions for your DOP planned parts. And there is a flag on Level 1 Part that allows you to control MRP explosion of DOP parts.
And IFS MRP will not create shop order requisitions for DOP parts and it does not see pegged DOP Orders.
IFS MRP has its planning domain and IFS DOP has its planning domain - separated. The manuf structure is used to explode the Master Production Schedule down through the DOP planned top part and DOP planned subassemblies, when the explosion reach the MRP planned components then “MRP planning domain kicks in” with its own sets of rules. This explosion works for both Plannable and Buildable manufacturing/purchase structure revisions.
So with this approach you can get your long purchase leadtime items into the stock in advance. And of course with this forecasting/master scheduling solution it is possible that some of the purchase items will just collect dust, coz the as built structure didn’t end up as you planned.
Perhaps you have already evaluated this…
Cheers,
Mats

Thank you for the answer Mats!
We don’t use Master Scheduling but have realized that we should start exploring it. Does it affect the possibility to use DOP for the top levels of the structure?
And regarding DOP for plannable structures. When I have created the DOP header I try to create a DOP structure. When the latest structure (plannable) is chosen I get the error: “Cannot create Top Order without a structure and revision”. Have i misunderstood something or do you know what is going on? Note that we are using IFS 8.
Hi again,
You can use master scheduling (MS) with DOP. As I said MS will not create Shop Order Reqs for the DOP parts. This should work in a late apps8 release. But please first check if you have the flag on Level 1 Part that allows you to control MRP explosion of DOP parts. Also you can have it even tighter and set the flag “Create S/P Req” to Do not create S/P Req for the specific MS level 1 parts.
MS + MRP will become a tool for you to create PO Reqs for you long lead time MRP items, whereas the make-to-order planned top parts and the pegged subassemblies (also make-to-order managed) will be planned by DOP.
BUT you cannot create your DOP structures from manufacturing structures as long as they are only in Plannable state. You get the error you describe above. But is this a real problem? MRP will explode through then manufacturing BOMs in Plannable (and Buildable) status.
