APB: Why are resources not being optimized when they are available?

I was wondering how to maximize capacity for resources on the Advanced Planning Board (APB)

I’m seeing a situation where a finite resource has availability, but it isn’t being optimize when backward scheduling.

For example. I have the tool and the labor class as finite and the work center as infinite. But what I’m seeing is the OP10 and OP20 are being scheduled correctly., but then when OP30 delays for 2 days later. But you can see that the tool and labor class still have availability.  Why isn’t trying to fill that void when there is availability?

APB Load settings

Also to note, I tried this with the Re-assign Resources and it gave similar results.

Hi,

When machine time, labor time, and tool time are all defined for an operation, APB schedules it only when all three constraints are simultaneously available. In your example, the labor resource is working on a non‑24/7 calendar (7:00 AM to 1:30 PM). Because of this limited availability, APB must align the tool operation with the person’s working hours. As a result, the system may need to extend the schedule across multiple days in order to create a feasible, finite schedule for the entire shop order.

In APB, system will consider the machine load as the hours required to load but still it will consider the labor and tool calendar availability to schedule the operation.

Thanks!
