I encountered an issue when opening a report generated from the ORDER REPORT screen in IFS Business Reporter. When I open the saved Excel file, I get the following error message: (We found a problem with some content in [report id]. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.")

After clicking Yes, the report opens, but I'm unsure what caused the error or if the content is affected.

Has anyone experienced this before or know what might be causing it?

Hi @Madura

This is a very generic error that this thrown from Excel. It is not possible to give a solution without properly investigating the report design and knowing the used rendering modes.

With that being said, I would like to know whether you can execute this report in BR client without any issues?

And what is the rendering mode used to render the report from IFS Cloud?

Thank You

Hello @shwiclk

Yes, the report executes without any issues in the BR client. The report is rendered to .xlsx format from IFS Cloud.

Thanks a lot for your support and for taking the time to look into this.

Thanks again.

After checking everything, I found that the Excel file was corrupted, most likely because of the way the report was set up or how the data was loaded. I fixed the issue by creating a new report sheet from scratch, which showed that the original file or data caused the problem.

Based on my experience and some research, here are the possible reasons,

  1. Corrupted Excel structure

    • This can happen from broken formulas, invalid references, or unsupported Excel features.

  2. Issues with named ranges or sheet references

    • Duplicated or broken names can confuse Excel.

  3. Copying and pasting from other Excel files

    • This can bring hidden issues into your BR report.

  4. Old or incompatible IFS BR add-in

    • Using an outdated version of BR with Excel can cause problems.

  5. Large data loads / Timeouts

    • If the report loads too much data, it can time out and cause Excel to save a partially broken file.

Tips to Avoid This in the Future

  • Try to build the report from a clean Excel file and avoid copying from old ones.

  • Use BR’s “Validate Report” option to check for errors before saving.

  • Keep the BR add-in and Excel updated (e.g., IFS Business Analytics is not supported for the IFS cloud).

  • Avoid loading too much data at once, use filters, or break large reports into smaller ones.

Rebuilding the report and reducing the data size solved my issue. Since then, everything has worked fine.

Additionally, if anyone downloads or opens a corrupted file, here are some ways to try repairing the file:

1. Use Excel’s Built-in Repair Tool

  1. Open Excel (but don’t open the file yet).

  2. Go to File > Open.

  3. Select the corrupted file.

  4. Click the dropdown arrow next to Open and choose Open and Repair.

  5. Click Repair when prompted.

If that doesn't work, try the Extract Data option.

2. Let Excel Auto-Recover the File

  • If you open the file and Excel shows the recovery message, click "Yes".

  • After opening, check if the report content looks correct.

  • Immediately save a new copy with a different name.

Thank you
