Southwest is currently working through demoting of parts.  We are wondering if any other carries have any feedback on demoting parts when any of following apply:

  • Managing demotion of a part when in multiple part groups and/or TRK slots
  • Updating open ROs after performing a part demotion
  • Active task definition
  • Open Borrow orders

Hello Michele, what do you mean by “feedback”? In our side, we worked a little bit on this

Hello

Please find AF experience on this activity, keep in mind we do not use MTX on the logistic area and therefore do not have parts with ROs or with Open Borrows orders

  • Managing demotion of a part when in multiple part groups and/or TRK slots
    • First we need to identify if the PART is applicable to multiple PG
    • If NO we can change the PG in Serialized and remove the PART from the PG
    • If YES Part must not be installed on any position of the CS
    • Either by ATTRITION or RETROFIT and by Interchangeability Order
    • Then Part is made N/A to be removed from the multiple PG
    •
    • When it is an error or a CS removal, a script is created to remove the CS, demote the PG and clean MTX data base
  • Active task definition
    • Not experienced yet, but may be scripted too

Best Regards

Do you have any recommendations around process improvements.  Current practices can take months to complete the demotion of 1 part number. Driven by these factors as mentioned above:

  • Managing demotion of a part when in multiple part groups and/or TRK slots
    • We create a new Part group move individual inventory to it then we can demote the PN
  • Updating open ROs after performing a part demotion
  • Active task definition
  • Open Borrow orders

We would appreciate any insight anyone may have on this subject.

There are several drawbacks in the system when trying to demote/promote parts.  It is a lengthy process and hard to work around.  A better solution would be great as discussed at the ADUG earlier this month.
