How do I take a current user and make them also an employee? What are the basic data fields that need to be filled in?

An Employee is created in the HCM module. There is an assistant available, which takes you through all the steps: “New Employment”. The object Employee, also always requires the object Person. Thus, you need to consider if a Person already exist or not for the individual you are creating an Employee for.
Since you are asking this question, I assume this has never been covered during your implementation of IFS? I would therefore strongly advise to reach out to IFS for consulting assistance on this fundamental process. There are many aspects to consider, depending on what you want to achieve by starting to create Employees in your ERP. An experienced consultant will be able to guide you through decisions and help you establish a good structure and strategy right from the start. That way there is less risk of later ending up with undesired data or structures.
