HCM - Employee Clockings - Absences - Leading to Normal clocking?

When I manually report absence clockings, the clockings show up as 2 records in Employee Interval.  I’m expecting 1 record in Employee intervals.

 

Below I would expect 1 line for the ‘In Absence’ and ‘Out Absence’.  I’m not getting that result, i’m getting 2 normal clockings when they should be an absence and am left with an open Absence.

 

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
