Good morning. I would like to define Day Types. I see there are Day Types under Application Base Setup as well as Working Hours Schedules in HCM. When do you use which one? If the HCM Day Type is the correct one, please can you share what the input details should look like in order to get an 8 hour Normal Day? Thank you.

If you want to use the day types in employee schedules, you have to use the day types within Working Hour Schedules.
Once the day type is defined, day type details need to be added.
Example, .
Working hours, 8-16 with no break.
Working hours, 8-17 With 1 hour lunch
Hope this will give you some basic idea.

When using day types you are essentially defining throughout the 24 Hour day where the buckets of hours worked should go.
Therefore typically anything ‘outside’ of the normal hours will go to overtime or an extra time wage code.
So what the day states is from midnight on the current day to the starting time of the shift IF an employee registers working hours these should be allocated to the overtime wage code.
Anything after the finish time of the shift to 23:59, if the employee registers working hours these are to be allocated to the overtime wage code.

When defining a day type, it should cover the full day(24 hours) working hours. Even though your day starts at 8:00 am, you have to instruct the system what it has to do if you clock in before 8am., That is the same if you clock out after 5 pm . Normally you can add Overtime or Extra time wage code to cover the time out side the schedule.
When using ‘Overtime’ in day type, you have to specify a value for ‘Overtime Priority’ .
