This is a bit of a basic question, but like all things IFS, the UI is so rich in configurations that maybe I’m missing something…

I would like the Search Bar to always show, I keep moving from screen to screen and, for the type of work I do, I have always using the Search Bar so I have extra clicks to display it every time I move to a new screen, which is a productivity killer.

Can this search bar be displayed by default when you open a screen without having to do the extra-clicking to show it?

@msurasky-price There has been a pin in the search panel ever since the move to the Aurena/Cloud UX. I don’t know if there is any useful functionality behind it, but this would be where you could start investigating. The pin is easier to see in the Light theme.

And this setting in Search Settings may also control the ‘always on’ for the search panel.

Hi @matt.watters

Thanks for answering. Unfortunately the “pin” on the search bar does nothing. You can try that:

  1. open the search bar
  2. press on the pin
  3. leave that screen
  4. come back

The search bar (even when the pin is still de-pressed) will NOT show up once you return, you have to re-open.

And regarding the “startup behavior”, yes, I know it works to repeat your search, but that’s not what I want (I change my searches all the time, what I need is for the search bar to remain open)..

Any other ideas anybody?

Hi @msurasky-price,

As @matt.watters suggested, you can make Search Bar remain open by default changing Startup Behaviour settting. Please refer below screenshot.

It is bit strange if not working.

Hi @matt.watters and @Abdul.

I experimented a bit with this functionality and now I have a better understanding on how these controls work.

  1. The “pin” is basically useless, or if it is useful for something, I cannot understand for what as it seems to do nothing.
  2. The “Use search” on the Search Settings (Startup Behavior) does affect visibility, so thanks so much for sending me in that direction
  3. The problem for me is, because I tend to use the same screen so much, I created my list of Bookmarks. Once you reach a page via that Bookmark, it doesn’t matter what your Search Settings were, so basically if you have a “Use Search” on your search settings for a screen (let’s say… “Work Centers”) but you access that screen via a Bookmark, the search panel will NOT show no matter what. You can have a Filter pre-loaded in a Bookmark, but you CANNOT create a bookmark that will open a page with the Search Bar.

After these tests I have a better understanding on how this works and what was the problem. It is unfortunate that you cannot create a Bookmark with a page where the Search Bar opens automatically, but I guess not everybody has this need and I have to learn to work around this issue by doing that extra “click”. In the grand scheme of things, it is not a huge deal.
