Is there a better documentation of how to setup Developer Studio than the Techdochs at docs.ifs.com ?

Here are some detailed questions:

  • Developer Studio
    • What should be inside Build Home ?
      • Does Build Home have to reside inside the folder where the instance is running or can it be a separate folder ?
      • Are there any specific files i can check for knowing where Build Home is ?
  • Application Form Designer
    • Do i need a specific version for the APF to get running ?
      • I’m reading Vis Studio 2010 for IFS 8, is this correct ?
      • Does it need the Professional version or is a 2010 C# Express sufficient ?
      • Do i need Vis Studio 2010 for IFS 8 or could i use 2013 as the installer for IFS 8 seemed to create the addins for 2013 as well
    • What are additional parameters i need to set like System variables ?
    • How to link APF to a specific IFS instance and how to debug / push changes made into this instance ?

Same question are asked for IFS 8 and IFS 10. Os is Win 10 Pro 64 bit and it seems to me, that a part of APF for IFS 8 failing corresponds to the fact, that disk paths and registry paths differ from the install scripts

could you please help me out or point me to someone who could help me

Hi,

These are the links to the F1 doc, not sure if you can access them directly, but if you have setup F1 doc internally you can check the path and do to that page.

Hope this helps,

Hello Chanaka,

thanks for the links. Yes, i can access them, but i’ve already read that points.

There stands nothing about what Build Home should be.

To summarize my situation: I’ve currently got no access to an IFS Develeoper VM in Citrix and i’ve got no access to harvest. I have the currently running system with Customer extensions and i need to make a change in a customer extension. Therefore i need to expand a database table and i need to change the GUI to show this additional field.

Is it possible to use the actual system for developing and how to get these changes back into the system ?

I’m sorry, but why do the F1Docs have to be so confusing ? Why is there no link from your install pages to the actual installation requirements ?

So, to summarize what i’ve found and what to use

Do i have to obey the IFS internal Service Packs when accessing the F1 Docs ? The IFS8 system is actually a 8 SP1

For Developer Studio for IFS 8 i use Developer Studio 9.802 and for IFS 10 10.82

Are these really the needed configurations or can i use a later APF dev tool for developing under IFS 8 ?

Do i really have to meet the given OS with max Windows 7 ?

Thanks Michael
