Downgrade DB and Middleware Server Resoruces

Hello,

We are in the beginning stages of planning our move for our on-prem VMs to Azure.

It will be costly to carry over the same configuration for our DB and middleware server and keep them up 24/7. This instance of IFS is mainly used for reference by Finance or Operations and by only a couple users.

Are there any issues with powering off the VMs, lowering their assigned resources and powering them back on?

Are there any additional steps needed specifically around IFS? Reconfigure the instance?

Hi @zconverse,

You would have to make sure there is enough resources for the running servers. For instance, if there are 2 Managed Servers with 4 GB heap memory assigned for each of them and 1 GB for the Admin Server, it would be advisable to have at least 12-16 GB of RAM, to allow some wiggle room as well. If the environment is going to be used by only a couple of users, then you could even scale down the IFS MWS to run with 1 Managed Server with limited Heap memory. 

To change these memory settings(Max Heap), you would have to do a reconfiguration. But you do not need to do anything else when restarting the Middleware Server host machine, other than shutting down the IFS Middleware Server first. 

It would be best to perform this during a proper maintenance window in case you run into any issues. 

I am not a DBA, so hope someone with the knowledge can advise on that.
