When creating an Opportunity in FSM what is the function of the “Team” field?

This field is intended similar to the Teams field you would find on the task screen for example.
If you have your sales personnel split into teams (e.g. regional) you can have that team indicated on the opportunity.
Opportunities have no automation out of the box so they are just for manually recording and updating information regarding potential sales. You can optionally create actions and automation using the business rules from the opportunity that could make further use of these fields though.
For instance if you enter the team on an opportunity and the opportunity converts to a sale you could set the system to copy the team over to the relevant records that relate to the new contract/request.

Thanks for the reply. If i allocate an owner or a team to an opportunity will the data go down to the mobile device?
If so how do i get the mobile to show the opportunities function?

The Opportunities functionality is stand alone out of the box. It should be possible to add the opportunity tables to the sync rules and filter it on the owner or team matching the mobile user so they only get the data that relates to them.
Regarding the display on the mobile, you would need to create a custom screen that then uses the newly synced data if you want mobile users to be dealing with the opportunities directly or set fields on existing screens to display the relevant info if you just want the opportunities on the device for reference. This may turn in to a lot of work depending on how much you are trying to do in this area.
