Hello Community,

What is the difference between the Objects tab in the Document Revision (fig1) and “Object Connection Transformations” using the service name “DocReferenceObject” (fig2) ?

Hi ZTC ZTC JGOTA,

Object connection transformation is simply defined if you attach a document to a window (let’s say pm action) you want the same documents to be displayed in Jobs and templates tab in PM. Such a requirements you can use object connection transformation with providing relevant information. You can read more on this in the help documents.

Objects tab in document revision is shows the which objects this document is attached. If you attach a document to prepare work order then relevant document object tab connection will be show this connection.

Hope this clarifies.

Regards,

Sahan

Hi @ZTC ZTC JGOTA,

In the Objects tab of the Document Revision screen, the object information on where the particular document is attached, is displayed. And also, there you can attach the same document to another object (Customer order, Work order, equipment etc..) as well, by simply clicking + button, and selecting the desired objects. Adding documents by this way, attach the document to the object as real (not a shortcut). It’s not relevant to Object Connection Transformations (OTC).

OTC automatically create a transformation (like a shortcut) of the document attached to the source LU (original object) automatically, as defined in the OTC rule. There is no record creating in the Objects tab of the document revision because of this transformation of the attachment.

While OTC automatically create a copy/transformation of the document attachment in the target LU object, we have to manually create documents in the Objects tab of the Document revision if it should be connected with additional object.

I have seen customers have developed custom events to automatically add objects to the Objects tab of the document revision, when there are situations we cannot use OTC (maybe without going for a custom OTC transformation method)

Thanks,

Here is the documentation for this:

https://docs.ifs.com/ifsclouddocs/21r1/DefineSystemBasics/AboutObjectConnectionTrans.htm?StandAlone=true

It’s for IFS Cloud but it works the same in IFS Apps. It’s quite detailed though, so read it slowly, many times :)
