We have several inventory parts that should be purchase parts only. Is there anyway of setting the inventory part to inactive and only use it as purchase part. We have already tried creating a part status to inactivate the inventory part but this doesn’t work when you try and use the purchase part. It gives errors on register arrival. Any suggestions or work arounds would be greatly appreciated.

If you want the part to be purchase only, you set the inventory part type as Purchased or Purchase (raw). You can’t inactivate the inventory part else you can’t ever receive the item into inventory.
A purchase part can’t exist without an inventory part. The right setup for a purchase part in a site is:
Inventory Part > Purchase Part > Supplier for Purchase Part
They are connected, not independent.
You can’t place POs otherwise and you can’t receive inventory otherwise.
I’m really curious what problem the inventory part seems to cause you that it seems necessary to inactivate?
It is possible to delete the inventory part record itself, but if you have any records for this part it will give you a reference error. You can try deleting the inventory part record, see if there are any references to this and if these can be deleted. It might be easier to create a new non-inventory purchase part though.

You can create a purchase part without an inventory part as we have several created this way, however you can’t have an inventory part without a purchase part. The problem is there are purchase parts setup with an inventory part which is incorrect for these parts. They should only be purchase parts and never received into inventory. We want to know how you switch it to only use these parts as purchase parts.

Yes you can create non inventory purchase parts. This need to be directly created through the purchase part window. The inventory part check box defined whether the part is a non inventory purchase part or an inventory purchase part.
As far as I am aware once the inventory purchase part is created you cannot untick this checkbox as long as there is a inventory part record connected. So as a suggestion I can suggest you to set the Inventory part into inactive state and create a new non inventory purchase part using the purchase part window.
Further if these parts are not used in purchase orders etc yet and if you do not have a stock you can simply delete the record from the application.

Yes, I understand now, you mean non-inventory purchase part that was described above, you can only do that from the start, if you started as inventory, it is stuck that way now
however you can’t have an inventory part without a purchase part.
You can, they are called Manufactured Type parts that have never been flipped to Purchased on the inventory part
