We have difficulties understanding how to set up and use QSL for our business. Since all QSLs are ranked, and two QSLs cannot have the same ranking, our impression is that they need to be part of the same quality system. Can you explain the purpose of the ranking and an example of how it is used in the real world?

QSL defines general requirements on your supplier’s quality system, for instance that they should be ISO 9001 certified. These requirements are user defined, so there are many ways how to define the quality system levels. It could look something like this:

In the Purchase Part page you define the QSL requirements for a purchase part:

And in the Supplier page you qualify a supplier for a specific Quality System Level:

If the supplier for the purchase part have not yet been qualified for the QSL requirements, it will not be possible to release a purchase requisition, purchase order or purchase order change order, unless a manual authorization have been made.

Hi Peter, thanks for the quick reply. We’ll see if we can set it up that way. To me it seems a bit strange to have all standards in the same ranking hierarchy, especially if we operate globally. How would e g an american quality standard be ranked vs a european quality standard? And if there are several standards the number of possible combinations could be many. Was that discussed during the design?

How different standards should be ranked against each other in the ranking hierarchy is up to you to decide, that´s the whole point with this functionality. And yes, if you want to complicate things by defining a lot of different QSL levels, then you can do that. But that is also something for you to decide.

Thanks Peter, now it’s clear enough for us to proceed - we have some customizations that may be covered by this new functionality (or not), depending on the user requirements.

Hi, what makes a supplier ‘Qualified’? is there a check box like Qualified Manufacture?

You quality a supplier for a specific part (QSR) in the Supplier for Purchase Part page in IFS Cloud:

If you are running the DME Extension in IFS Enterprise Explorer, then you set the QSR value in the overview window Supplier for Purchase Parts
