Very slow - part status

Hi. we are using apps 10 and run MRP site wide once a week that generate over 30,000 action messages after every run. Looking at the date over two thirds of the messages are ‘ No Demand Exists’ for parts with a frequency class of Very Slow ( No transaction over the past year). the part status of all these parts are set at A (active), should we change the setting to O (obsolete) to prevent MRP creating any demand and as a result hopefully reduce the number of MRP action messages we generate?what is best practice?kind regardsJamie

Upload Bill of materials from Solidworks

Hi does anyone know if it is possible to upload a Bill of materials created in solidworks 2021 directly into IFS when creating a part structure?currently we duplicate our effort and copy the Solidworks Bill of materials in IFS part by part which takes considerable time.we ae using Apps 10regardsJamie

Hi, can anyone suggest why MRP is picking up demand but not demanding any supply on the below part. Both Structure and routing are at buildable yet i am getting an action message ‘Not Buildable’ but cant understand why? regardsJaime

outside operations - purchasing visibility

Hi.Our engineering department would like to use outside operation within manufacturing routings which will all have there own individual work centres set to ‘outside work centre’ and have a connected supplier to reduce the number of levels within a structure.This seems to make sense as it can dramatically reduce the time and complexity of engineering required but our procurement department raised two issues Issue :1 limited forward visibility of future purchase requisitions and purchase orders, not visible until the shop order (with the outside operation) has been released, as when they are at planned this doesn't drive any demand.Question: is there a way procurement can have greater visibility of future purchases requisitions or orders?Issue 2: visibility of parts currently out being processed by an outside operation.Question: how do they see what parts are currently at an outside operation?Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated as I don't believe we are currently using th

Shop Order issuing of liquid raw materials

Hiusing IFS Apps 10 and wanted to know if there was a best practice for issuing liquid raw materials to shop orders i.e. paints, glues and greasesWe have recently implemented the automated backflush and reserve function on IFS to reduce the requirement of stores to manually issue all material when the shop order was completed and sent to stores which was creating a bottleneck, due to the size of some of the routings material was being issues 2 weeks after actual consumption which also created a stock accuracy problem. The auto reserve and backflush method works great but does create an issue with stock discrepancy when we reserve and issue liquid raw material as each operator uses a slightly different amount to each other with is natural for this process (paint spraying)the system currently reserves the engineered required amount and auto issues the material when the operation is approve from the shop floor work bench but the operator might actual use a little more or a little less tha

Open manufacturing shop orders

Hi i currently work for a build-to-order manufacturing company that releases manufacturing shop order early in order to keep under utilised work centres business and resources busy, but do not process the whole routing which results large numbers of shop order remaining open in WIP.This does not seem to me as the right course of action and it negatively effects our internal KPI for manufacturing shops order closed within plan routing time.Does having large numbers of shop orders unfinished in WIP have any negative effects on the system regarding MRP and scheduling?regardsJamie

Transportation time - Routing

Hi Using apps 10 and trying to replicate a 7 day cure time on an manufactured inventory part routing.I was going to try and do this by using a ‘transportation time’ between op 60 and 70 so when MRP runs it schedules op 70 7 days after op 60.Will this approach work? and what is the unit of measure for transportation time? as the help bar suggest a 24 hour calendar.regards Jamie

Resource Analysis - capacity lines

Hi, using apps 10 and looking at the resource analysis screen to review available capacity in a work centre and noticed there are two capacity lines 1) capacity unitisation and 2) adjusted capacity.can anyone explain the difference and how to adjust each capacity line? regardsJamie

Resource Analysis Icon Meanings

Hiusing IFS apps 10 and have been playing around with the Resource structures and resource analysis to replicate actual resource constraints.however there is an icon on the resource structure that I do not know the meaning to (below highlighted in red) can anyone help? Issuing Operation Material

Hi, we are using IFS Apps 10 and would like to know if there is a way shop floor operator can manually issue material which is a great quantity then the Qty assigned (reserved)? currently it is not possible without changing the required engineered amount on the shop order. regards Jaime

Scheduling issue - overlapping operation start

Hi, using Apps 10 and i am having an issue with scheduling operations within a work centre.we have individual work centres and labour classes for each 4 operation within a routing and only 1 person in each of the labour classes.the schedule capacity on each of the work centres and labour classes (and individuals within the labour classes) are set to finite in order for MRP to see the constraint when scheduling.How even MRP is run it schedules operations to start before the previous operation has finished which is physically impossible. (see below) On the inventory part there is also a 1 day order gap to try and stager the shop orders being released.why is MRP ignoring the constraints of the work centres and labour classes or am i doing something wrong?regardsJamie

No Available stock showing

Hi using apps 10 and trying to set up auto reserve and issue of shop order material and have come across a material availability issue below. I have set the Reserve/ issue form location on the part structure and check to see there is available stock on hand but when i go to auto reserve the material I'm presented with the below error message. but when i check the available inventory on Inventory part in stock is shows 144L of part 116767 available in location 18694 which is Picking type. Why is the reserve and backflush visualization showing 0 available ?regardsJamie

Shop floor workbench - backflush material

Hi using apps 10 and trying to auto issue (backflush) operation connect materail from the shop floor workbench but the check box’s are greyed out and unable to check any of them.i have created inbound location on the work centre from were i want the material reserved and issued from but cant seem to do it from the workbench.does anyone know why this is?RegardsJamie

Operations starting with an overlap ??

Hi We are using APPs 10 and trying to schedule operations in sequence so they do not plan to start in parallel. We have created a new work centre which only has one operations that travels through the work centre, set the ‘ concurrent operations’ to NOT Allowed - Group start in sequence (work centre below)when the MRP schedules the operations it plans for the operations to start before the previous operation is finished. In the routing there is 0 Overlap and a crew size of 1, its physically impossible to do this, why is the system scheduling in this way?regardsJamie

Scheduling Constant Demand

Hi We are using Apps 10 and MRP to schedule our shop order operations. We have a contract that has a constant demand every month of 16 units, the product has a 15.5 day variable lead time to manufacture and we backward schedule.When MRP schedules our operations backwards from the customer order line want date (end of each month), is plans to start manufacturing in the second week of each month.is there a way we can get system to plan to build 4 unit per week every week to steady the flow of supply ? regards Jamie

Scheduling - shop order gap

Hi i am using Apps 10 and have put a 1 day shop order gap on an inventory part so MRP would schedule only 1 shop order requisition each day. (below)As you can see from the image below it is still scheduling 4 different shop orders to start on the same day at the same time which is not possible for us to achieve. When I go into the actual shop order i can see the Earliest start date on all for shop orders have a 1 day gap between them but all have the same finish date. We use backwards scheduling so I don't think MRP looks at the earliest start date? Why is there not a shop order start date gap of 1 day between the shop order ? and how do i achieve what i am trying to implement?regardsJamie

Kanban Circuit - ERROR MESSAGE

Hi tried to create a Kanban circuit but I was unable to save the circuit due to a an error message.We set the supply to location to a out bound location, Floor stock group within a work centre and replenish from location within stores which a picking group. Order gap time - U.O.M?

Hi does anyone know what the unit of measure used for ‘Order Gap Time’?I have set the order gap time to 1 (assuming 1 day) on a top level inventory part to prevent MRP scheduling multiple units to be assembled at the same time on the same day. my aim is to get MRP to schedule the assembly of 1 unit per day to level the manufacturing schedule. regardsJamie

Production Lines Management - how to use it?

Hi i am currently using IFS APP10 and have never used the Production Line Management window before.The company I work for are a build to order manufacture and we do a lot of repeat order work and have a core product that is manufactured every day.would a product such as our core product benefit from being set up as a production line in IFS?could anyone provide a brief explanation as to what exactly the Production Line Management window can do and when to use it? regardsJamie
