How does "Obsolete" work for Installed Items?

Hi Phil,OK, thank you for checking with R&D.What we have done for now is to set up a custom pop-up. We change the description to include “Do Not Use” and if that is there, the pop-up will warn/stop users from using it.Seems to be working BUT of course we then see Do Not Use showing up in existing data sometimes.

Thanks Phil,We have that setting off because if on, there is no control at all of using obsolete parts, even once the inventory is used up. When on, we can still quote an obsolete part in a Field Quotation, even if obsolete and no stock, without warning that it is now obsolete and therefore should not be quoted/sold (I just tested to confirm).Having this off works best for us for parts but our current issue is controlling which Product ID’s are allowed to be used for creating new Installed Items. Any suggestions how we can prevent users from using certain Product ID’s when creating them?Thanks

Hi Phil,I just did a test where we have inventory of a part which I set to obsolete and then tries to use it in a Field Quotation and also tried a Service Order. In both cases, when I tried to use up that existing stock, I got the message “You cannot add an obsolete product '14-699' to a Material Demand.”We would really like it if it worked as R&D told you, so we can set parts as obsolete and still use up existing stock but currently for parts, we have to wait until they are used up first and then set to obsolete.FYI, In the example above, when creating Installed Items, we are only referring to parts set as serialized but inventory we do not serialize them.Thanks

Service Orders missing

Hi Phil,Thanks for the excellent support. We managed to find the PM Batch log and turns out that the SV in question failed due to a bad pricing rule, so was never completed, hence not in history or active.So not a system issue.Thank you

Thanks Phil,I checked again using Request_ID but got the same result. Also when looking service_call and c_service_call. I’ll ask a colleague to assist with the PM Batch log files later.Your idea of a network issue when transferring from active to history is interesting and worrying.

Hi Phil,Thanks, I tried that and SV2310230098@@1 is not showing up at all in either order_line or C_order_line.So I guess we’ll have to log a support request but without being able to replicate it will make it difficult to track down.

Hi Phil,Thanks for that but we have noticed also that the SA on mobile sees attachments that are set on the contract, as well as whatever is set on the Service Order. We don’t want them seeing the attachments from the contract, only the Service Order.I am guess the same answer applies but worth asking; is there any way to only show attachments that are on the Service Order and NOT those only attached to the contract or Customer Center?Thanks

Choose Open date for Service Order when created by PM Batch Scheduler

Hi Laurence,We like to have our PM Dates set to the first day of the contract period, so we use “Once in Cycle” and set that to 1 day. I guess you can use the same but set it to whatever months to get the dates you want.

Hi Phil,Good point. I wonder if there is any way to set the Approval Process to take into account the Invoice setting? The default is “Later” but if it could recognise that it was changed to “Now” and then bypass that, then that would be ideal (of course I am just fantasising here, no idea if that is possible).I can’t take any credit for the idea though, I got this suggestion in the past from Danny Klein.

You could use an Approval Process perhaps. There was an example in the documentation in V14 (Document: SV Approval Process that Stops Orders with Price Greater than 0) where you could set it so that you just click on the Invoice button and if there is a charge due, it would use LATER or AFTER AUDIT but if there was no charge, it would use NOW.Sadly there was a bug with that in V14 so we never used it but perhaps that is something that could be used in V15?If you search in the help for that document (SV Approval Process that Stops Orders with Price Greater than 0) it gives a worked example.Please let me know if you manage to get that working because I would like to use it too.

We use Azure for SSO and to make that work, the URL ends with“/default_login_page.aspx?profile=Production”. However, once logged in, the URL changes that to end with “/default_portal.shtml” If we copy the URL after being logged in and then use that to access Alliance, we found that this then gives you the old log in screen and you can type in the user and password as before.We don’t want users to log in that way so we changed everyone’s password to something they don’t know, to force them to use SSO but it is handy if Support need to log in as another person.
