Hi, The business I'm employed by is considering the purchase of Project MRP (or pMRP) to compliment our existing packages (IFS Apps 10 and APB). However, it's not entirely clear what additional features pMRP provides (and the problems this tackles that the 'stock' planning tools can't). Hi all,Our current Manufacturing Lead Times (as found in ‘Inv. Part’ - ‘Acquisition’) are not accurate.This is because the calculation used by IFS totals all the values we’ve specified, including the queue times (entered manually) for each work center in the routing of a part. This formula doesn’t seem correct. Case:Consider part, P, which has an MLT of 100 days.P could have 3 operations, at 3 different work centers, with 3 different queue times.WC1 - (queue time against the calendar in working days) = 10 WC2 = 20WC3 = 70 In isolation, the values for each work center are true. For example, if anther part, P2, has only WC3 in its routing, it may need to wait 70 days based on the loading of the resources to begin work. However, the original part, P, routed through WC1- 3 doesn’t have a lead-time of 100 days. Since the 70 working days of queue time is greater than the preceding operations, this would absorb the wait time for the 2 prior operations. So, the actual queue time for P would b
Hi, I’ve been experimenting with 'Manual Pegging of Shop Order Material Line'. I’ve grasped the basic mechanics, which is to search for a part and assign it (by allocating the full qty. ‘available’ to the level above (selecting the relevant order no). The only discernible change is when I check ‘Inventory Part Availability’ the ‘Pegged’ column is whatever qty. you assigned (both for the supply and demand elements). Are there other benefits besides this? I hope there is, otherwise, you wonder what the point of this somewhat manual practice is. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Jay
Hi all,We have supply for given parts which MRP has not merged into a single requisition. Despite the requirement being within a similar if not identical date. These parts also have an Order Cover Time of 30 days (& Planning Method set to G). We are currently using pMRP. Is the use of this, specifically separate Project ID’s, forcing the netting process to supply lot-for-lot?For instance, we’ve got 3 finished goods to be made. Each loaded in a separate project. The gross requirements are the same. The independent demand (when Due) is the same. Yet the supply, in the form of various shop and purchase reqs are not merged. Why?Any thoughts?
Hi guys, How does a user run Advanced Planning Board (APB) to schedule a single project? I have released demand for a single end-item, under a specific project ID/code. I then accepted all the requisitions (shop order) for the parts under that structure (as found in Product Structure - Multi-Level...). I then inserted the project ID ‘TOL000058’ in the relevant box in APB (first tab ‘Load Options’) But when I count hits the result is no orders found under this criteria. Despite 60 shop orders being at a PLD state, with their dependent demand coming from the project in question. See below:

Hi, I don't fully understand the date logic in the time-phased supply proposals created by IFS for an end-item (in an engineer-to-order setting). Can you outline the key types of dates (or 'offsetting inputs') that figure within scheduling. From specifying when the user desires said item, to all the subsequent dates that are generated after BoM explosion. The 'tools' at are disposal are IFS Apps 10, namely, MRP that executes 'Infinite Scheduler' and 'APB' (our method to CBS schedule items to reflect 'live' capacity constraints such as the current load at a given work centre). I'll provide a brief description of our current practice and raise questions alongside that. If there's any misuse, do say so. Overview: A 'Required Date' is specified when demand is created, used to say when project 'X' is desired. Does this input need to be constrained by a lead time, whether plausible or not? For instance, can you specify the Required Date for X as 1/1/15? I'm not asking whether the system has

Hi, Does ‘Planning Alerts - Shop Order’ need to be configured (if so, how) before this page is useful? I’ve done partial testing by selecting ‘Approve Planning Alert’ for what is deemed as ‘Alert - High’. No changes occurred to the orders/parts question. At least, not according to the history of said orders. I’m not sure what to expect with this page, i.e. is this anything like actioning exception messages in other MRP vendors? Hi all, I’m scheduling an entire product, to be manufactured from scratch, with MRP (Apps 10) and APB.How can I plan the upper levels of the bill, i.e. the assembly parts, to start only when the component pieces are projected to be available based on their CBS scheduled finish dates. So, the shop order for part .’..GA’ has an Earliest Start (as found in the header of the order) of much greater than whenever the requisition was accepted. Typical product:Level 0 = General AssemblyLevel 1 = Sub-assembliesLevel 2 = Piece Part Requirements Our capacity constraints are in making the piece parts (L2) which are time-consuming operations. Hence, I need to finitely schedule that list of parts in APB based on resource loading then, schedule the upper-levels to start based on the projected availability of L2. Tying materials with ‘Operation No.’ in ‘Product structure’ doesn’t provide assistance because the resulting action messages are downwards-looking. Early/Late Order actions would be among

Hi all, How can I update Need Dates for Shop Orders, in the event the Required Date for the independent demand against the top-level is changed?For instance, a product could be given a Required Date of next month. MRP then calculates backwards to determine the date at which each material in the bill must be available to salsify said date, using the component lead time (unprotected). I take it this is how Need Dates are calculated. But, if the business has a change in priorities, and we decide to amend our master schedule, I’d like to find a way to update the raised/released/started orders based on us having manually edited the Required Date.That way, when APB is executed over a group of orders, taking Need Date as a means to determine sequencing, it can reflect changes in our priorities at the top-level.Is there a report to provide this alignment? Any data requirements? As of now, we are not using pMRP or DOP. Just IFS Apps 10 (with APB for CBS Scheduling). thanks,Jay
Hi all, Is there a page in IFS Apps 10 which enables the user to view all the items with independent demand (Proj. Misc) against it? As it stands, demand is released for each project, so if we wish to review the required date for product/end-item it needs to be done in isolation. Is there a way we can view the top-level of a plan so we can make macro decisions about what entire products to push out in exchange for others? thanks,Jay
Hi, One of our manufacturing work centers (currently setup with a single resource and labor class, on a 24/6 calendar, equating to 24 hours of available capacity per day) needs to be amended. We’re looking for this loading cell to enable 48 hours of work to be done per day. A new calendar can’t be created (48/6). Our only option, it appears, is to include an additional resource.But in doing so, APB (our main scheduling platform) makes the orders released to this work center start in parallel to each other. Where, in reality they should be one after. Is there another way around this, without recourse to halving the MFG factor of the parts routed to this work center?Any suggestions? many thanks,Jay
Hi guys, I’ve got a query about how to use APB. An example is apt here. Consider an MPS consisting of 2 items. Lets stipulate the structure for each is: Level 0 = end-item (GA), Level 1 = SA (x2), Level 2 = 4 piece parts & Level 3 = 10 piece parts. Let’s also imagine 0 overlap between recipes (thus no requisition to merge supply). The relevant ‘Priority Rule’ is ‘Earliest Possible Due Date’ (with all operations selected) since we’re looking to schedule both projects to finish asap, with no spare capacity gaps. 2 options arise at this stage. Either, schedule both project items (under the priority rule stated) in APB with a single executed run. Or, load the initial project (specifically, the parts therein) and execute the engine. Then, do the same for the next project, but exclude all operations that are released and started, thereby ignoring the orders under the first project. Note, a presumption is there’s no ‘MPS confusion’: insofar as the initial project is of greater priori
Hi,I have a question about creating new revisions, which is done to facilitate the change of a component from purchased to manufactured (and vice versa). The underlying aim is to find the cleanest way to ensure MRP calls for the correct part type (i.e. generating the desired requisition type).Current PracticeAt present, a new revision is created (ref. page, ‘Eng Revisions’ → column ‘Eng Rev’). Following that, phase out dates are inserted by the user (ref. ‘Inventory Part’ → tab ‘Revisions’) against all the preceding revisions (and the purchased and manufactured templates they encompass).Hence, when MRP runs, it’ll have no choice other than calling for the desired part type. Because all else is off the table, by inserting phase out dates.Suggestion/QuestionI believe we shouldn’t have to up-issue a part just to reflect it’s status change from purchased to manufactured (and vice versa). Hi guys, At our site, APB is used to CBS schedule works orders prior to their release. The priority rule “Earliest Possible Due Date” is our standard execution (there’s no reason for us to use anything else). Can I get a definition of this rule, hopefully, to supplement what I know. I take it to do the following: For the orders (or operations) selected, schedule those to Start/Finish as soon as capacity permits (i.e. ASAP or Least Slack). Plus, if a trade-off is required (i.e. when two or more orders are competing for a resource) prioritize the job(s) with an earlier Need Date. That appears to be how dates are given against available capacity and the sequencing principle. Is this correct? Did I miss a crucial element? I’m especially curious to know how the field “Earliest Start Date” for a given order figures. Does this present a hard constraint on APB, such that regardless of if there’s usable capacity, an order cannot be scheduled any earlier that it’s Earliest Start Date?
Hi guys, Is there a way our site can render a previously used work center obsolete? I don’t believe it can be deleted, since now closed works orders were actioned at said resource, so deleting it leaves an incomplete historical record. I need a way to raise an error message (if not purely prevent) us from assigning work to that loading cell. Does IFS have this functionality i.e. equivalent to turning a work center off-line or inactive? if so, what window is this? Many thanks, Jay
Hi guys, In ‘Shop Order Requisitions’, there are two columns called ‘Original Due’ and ‘Planned Due’. This determine the ‘Need Dates’ for the works orders that are raised by accepting the requisitions in question. In turn, dictating to APB (our CBS engine) what to prioritize when a trade-off is required given resource limitations. How can those dates be changed? Namely, for SST items under planning method B/C. For demand released by a customer or projects that would involve editing the required date, performing MRP and alignment via MRP Action Proposals. How can we change the Orig. and PLD Due dates for SST items so they are called for now. thanks, jay
