FSM Performance Tuning

Hi,I tend to set the trace log to 6 when the system is slow as a first step and then search the server log file for ‘Time Elapsed’. Locate the transactions that are taking in the seconds or just vastly longer than others and see if they relate to a common area.As general advise, the activity feed tends to take up a lot of process and many users/customers do not actually use it. Turning this off can give a big performance boost with little noted change.Hope that helps a little.Lee

The trace log should have very little impact on server performance. When I have used it in the past it has made an unnoticeable difference so you should be okay to turn it on, especially if only for a couple of minutes to capture data and then switch back.A more detailed analysis would probably be better suited to a support case so, if you are reluctant to turn on the trace or the trace does not reveal anything, I would advise creating a new case with as much information on when and how you are encountering slowness in the system.Lee

Thanks for the info. Should be helpful in future. You may want to add a tag and/or part of the title with ‘FSM’ to make this more visible to FSM users on here. The FSM posts can sometimes be hard to identify.

New to FSM

I would add that I have found it helps to get a view on how the system is actually used in live environments as early as possible. As FSM is highly configurable the setups that are actually in use tend to differ greatly from what the documentation would suggest. Understanding the business rules - being able to interpret them and how to create new ones as well as amend existing ones - should help a lot as this is where most customer specific amendments are driven from. The other area I would recommend looking at is the sync rules and how they replicate down to the devices. A minor change to a sync rule can have a major impact on system performance due to the change of data being driven to each mobile device. Understanding this area will greatly assist in fine tuning the performance of a system setup. Hope this helps.

FSM Business Rule - expression subtract from value

Have you tried it with the - 25 inside the quotes? XML is not my strong suite but I think the calculation needs to be inside the select rather than after.

Hi, It looks like the notification system either cannot locate the report viewer or does not have permission to run it. Does the report viewer run correctly if you run the report manually outside of the notification? If it does then you will need to check that the report viewer is at the URL that is mentioned in the email and that it allows the FSM system to run it rather than just by a user. If not you will need to review the setup of the report viewer itself. Kind regards,

@jbernardo I would think it would be more likely to be a permission issue or something network related which is getting beyond my scope. I would have thought the notification system would use the same path as that used when you request it from in app manually so less likely to be the path if calling it manually works. You may need to log a case for assistance from the consulting team to check the setup is correct or your IT if your infrastructure is handled outside of IFS.

Serial No Auto number with specific rule

Hi @Yasuda, You should be able to set verification on the field using the UI desinger that uses a regular expression created on the regular expression screen found under Studio when using a Studio licensed user to make sure the entry matches the format you need. If this needs to not rely on user input then you would need to look more at using a business rule that updates the serial number based off of the entries in the relevant fields. You would likely need to use some of the user_def fields to hold the year and month so that the business rule can then select them and combine for the serial number. I would suggest using the product ID to populate the numerical part in this case to ensure the numbers are unique.

Hi @Yasuda , Product_ID is the out of the box name for the field that stores the system generated unique key for each product record. You may have altered this to display with a different name in the front end but the database field will still be product_id.

Hi, You need to allow multiple endpoints for the application. You can do it for all users by changing the MetrixEndpoints.xml file at C:\inetpub\wwwroot\FSMServerXXXXXXX\Client If it is select users it would be more complicated I believe.

I would have thought that is how it uses the endpoints file, yes. I have not traced it to be certain though.

Anyone know the table that store the FSM server log levels?

Hi, Currently these settings are held within a file on the application server rather than within the FSM database itself. The file is logsettings.xml at the path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\*instance name*\Config. I believe there is a move to bring the few external settings like this within the database in later versions of FSM 6 but to my knowledge this is not yet in place. Kind regards, Lee Pinchbeck

FSM Request ID Sequence Generation

Hi, There is nothing from within the user interface to set this. The sequences are set directly on the database. This would most likely be set by the IFS team during implementation to what ever the required sequence is and then not touched again which is why the user interface does not allow it. # If you would like more information on how to set a sequence against a field in an SQL database using SQL Server Management Studio let me know and I will see what I can do. FSM-Shipment Grouping Rules

Hi, Have you read the documentation relating to this screen by pressing the question mark button at the top right of the FSM window? This runs through the shipping functionality and how this comes in to play. Essentially you set up rules on this screen that the system will then use to group parts together to ensure the correct parts are always shipped together when sending between locations. Hi Anil, Open SSMS, expand DB >> Programmability >> Sequences >> each table has an entry in this location, just double click on the one you want to see and amend as required. This is standard SQL database functionality rather than being an IFS App procedure so if you require further assistance you may need to look into SQL manager assistance rather than here but it may be that member of the IFS FSM Consulting team may be able to assist further as they will likely have had to make changes like this for customer databases on setup before. Hi, I do not believe you can disable the pop-up as, whilst the script appears to function, it is triggering an error and the system will need to display that error. If you correct the script so that it does not trigger the error then the pop up will not occur. It looks like from the error that you may get away with putting each round operation in its own set of brackets as that may be what is causing it to confuse the > operation i.e. (round(P,0))>(round(Q,0)). If that does not work you may need to post the full script so someone can take a look at it in context. Kind regards, Lee Pinchbeck

Hi Pinmaya, Not sure if I am missing something here but I cannot see any addition in the script. It pulls from one user def field and then updates that same user def field. Depending on what triggers this script that could then cause a loop of the script executing. Also, not sure why you have set 100 as a variable if it will always be the maximum value. I would expect to see P being set as the sum of two fields and then a comparison in the if statement between P and 100. Kind regards, Lee Pinchbeck

FSM- Perform Definitions

Hi, My understanding is this is used in conjunction with the XML_MESSAGE output option for business rules so that you can define the function that you are entering as XML in the business rule. Business rules are a very powerful element of FSM and are very complex even when not using the XML output option which then allows you to execute pretty much anything you can write in to XML code as a result of the rules being met. If you are unclear in this area I would strongly recommend you request training specifically on Business Rules as this will be covered within that and will ensure that you come away with a complete view of the area and stand you in good stead to then understand, amend and create business rules within FSM. To just learn the perform definitions screen and the XML output would probably not be as helpful without the business rule knowledge on which to apply it. Kind regards, Lee Pinchbeck

Hi, Due to the complexity and danger in setting XML script against a business rule output I do not believe there is standalone documentation for this. As I said the best route would be to request training in this area. You will then ensure you are getting the best resource to provide the information. There is documentation for the business rules themselves which can be found by pressing the question mark symbol at the top right in FSM whilst in the business rules screen. This does not go into the XML output side of things though for the reasons above. Kind regards, Lee Pinchbeck

Hi, This may be better suited to a specific training course as it would need to cover a lot more than the simple question & answer format of this forum and also relates to a more technical area of the system.
