@Mathias Dahl “As you know, IFS Cloud in Cloud Deployment does not support storing documents on hardware owned by the customer. There we only support database or IFS Cloud File Storage with Azure Storage as the backend. That's a business decision made by IFS (not "R&D") when IFS Cloud was first released.”This is the problem. IFS wants all customers to move to the hosted cloud, but is removing functionality that would enable them to do so. IFS wants to promote that the IFS applications is one product and is the same whether implemented in the IFS Cloud or Remote, a key selling point that differentiates us from our competition. and what you are saying here is that it is different and functions different.Multiple shares/repositories in the cloud does address the issue of segregation of files, and that is a good thing and will address one of the use cases of multi company and multi country.Based on your comment regarding performance, I could be wrong but in earlier v

No what I want is the solution to support multiple repositories and external non-cloud repositories as the current functionality in IFS 10 supports and every previous version since IFS 98. Just having multiple shares in the cloud is not enough.

@Caleb Dahl The only option if they want external or non-cloud repository is to implement on-prem or remote, but even in this case my understanding is that they will still be limited to 1 database and 1 fileshare.

@Caleb Dahl For companies that are commercial and sell to A&D, they may only have a few documents that are ITAR controlled, usually drawings or images of the part. they cannot put those documents into a cloud repository whose infrastructure is not ITAR controlled or meets the stringent requirements that we see in the GOV cloud. However, with an external repository that is secured and controlled, they can still link those documents to objects in IFS. That is the impact with respect to external repository. The other issue is the limitation of the number of repositories, the limitation to one file storage repository is also problematic even if the customer is in the GOV cloud. even with in the ITAR and defense requirements there are always requirements for encapsulation such that documents across programs are not co-mingled. this is also a challenge for multi company, multi national companies that wish to keep physical documents segregated based on company or country. I have created an Idea to keep the support of external and multiple repositories. Please promote this to everyone that will be affected… There will be many people affected... here are just some use casesUse case 1: Customer manufactures dual use products and technologies and sells to both commercial and defense markets. They have some ITAR /defense requirements for some items only, and do not need a full Gov Cloud solution. In this scenario with the capability to have external repositories, we can implement this customer in IFS Cloud, with IFS Cloud hosting and manage any sensitive documents in an external repository, but still have them linked to the appropriate functionality and control their access through security. Their storage in an ITAR controlled repository gives them the coverage they need. Use case 2: utility provider implementing in IFS Cloud– by law / regulation power and utility companies in NA cannot store potentially sensitive documents on the cloud. Any documents that

@Mathias Dahl Seems ridiculous to have to create an idea for this as if it were new functionality rather than functionality that already exists that you are taking away. Perhaps it would be better if you surveyed your customer base before removing functionality.As I do not have access to all of the customer base, that is using this functionality and I know many people do not frequent the community., the only way I can effectively draw attention to this would be through public social media. And I would rather not air IFS shortcomings to the world.

@Mathias Dahl by number of releases you mean IFS Cloud. because this was supported up through IFS 10 and had been since I started working with IFS in 1997. What you have essentially done is remove functionality that customers have been using for 20+ years and have now prevented them from using IFS in the Cloud. You have also hampered any efforts to sell IFS in the Cloud to any new customers that have regulatory requirements or the desire to store documents externally for other reasons i.e. size, network distribution, etc. We will now need to either get them to pay the 30% premium to move into Gov Cloud or recommend they go on prem, which will probably get us eliminated from opportunities that are looking for cloud solutions.If your goal is to get all of the customers into the IFS hosted cloud, this just worked against that.This isnt about people who want more options and capabilities, it is about you taking away options and capabilities they already have with out asking. and

Cloud storage for documents is not allowed for certain types of documentation in the US utility industry (sensitive documents that expose cyber security risks). Also for companies that serve both commercial and defense industries that do not have a full requirement to be in gov cloud but do have some classes of documents that are ITAR (drawings) or have similar requirements.The ability to have an on prem/noncloud document vault/repository is a critical requirement.It sounds like from your description that you will not support a cloud deployment with a non cloud external repository. This is a problem not only with new cloud prospects, but preventing existing customers from moving to the IFS Cloud. Dean

This is a huge mistake and will cause many customers to not opt for IFS in the cloud. Many of our customers in the Utilities Industries and those that serve Aerospace and Defense industries are dependent on the capability to have external document storage for certain classes of documents. these documents need to be stored on prem or on secure non cloud vaults by regulation. The ability to link these documents to metadata and processes is one of the key features of IFS.This lack of capability will force many companies in regulated industries to opt for an on prem solution or potentially a competitor solution that is cloud based that allows this capability. Not having these capabilities is taking away key functionality existing customers are using and will hurt us in the marketplace.You mentioned checking in “Link” documents in a previous message however I have found that doing that is somewhat inconsistent in its behavior and doesnt work very well.

IFS Cloud - PDF viewed in browser vs download and view

@Mathias Dahl The problem that we are finding with the Aurena view is that it does not view pdf files correctly in IFS10. it does not display all of the content of the pdf file. more current versions of pdf files contain layers of content, the pdf viewer embedded in aurena does not handle these files properly. If you download and view, you see all of the content, if you only view with the eye you do not see all of the content.How do I force the aurena client to down load and view, or how can the embedded viewer be updated to view pdf files properly. note, if you scan a file into pdf it displays fine as it is “flattened”, if the pdf file is generated any other way it does not.

Certificate Error when installing MS Project add in for IFS project

This seems to be the issue. the site was not a trusted site in my internet explorer browser. once I added the site to the browsers trusted sites, the installation gave me a warning but allowed me to continue the install. one of my settings prevented the add in from being loaded (Require Application Add-ins to be signed by trusted publisher - the default on install is unchecked, somehow I must have checked it when I was poking around) on start up, but once I resolved that, I was able to manually activate it.

Certificate Error when installing MS Project add in for IFS project

yes we are using a trusted certificate for https. I have no issues running the IEE client or aurena, and all of the other add ins installed fine. but for the ms project add in i get the certificate error, I don’t get to an installer screen. I suspect there may be an issue with the cert provided by R&D for the race database for IFS 10 UPD 8.
