We would like to preserve the Person object for referential consistency of what he did, but want to remove the userlogin

Did you check the Employee connection to the Company?

On the person record there is a field called User ID. You’ll need to remove the user from here before you can delete the user record.

Thanks!!!! that did it and allowed me to delete.
Did you check the Employee connection to the Company?
Unfortunately I did and he was expired within User by Company. though Deleting the user ID on the person object did the trick. thanks!
