Is it possible to have an activity visible in PSO without it actually taking up the availability of the resource? Our customer is interested in having some visibility of certain events on a resource during a specific time-frame, but does not want to prevent that resource from being assigned to other activities during that time. The idea is that this would be visible in PSO while still having the resource available at that time.

One thing I could think if was fixing all activities to date/time and to the resource, effectively forcing overlaps in the schedule. Would there be another way to achieve this without impacting the flexibility of the schedule?

If there is any other way to do this without using an activity (but it still being visible in PSO) that would also be great.

Hi @Roel van Zwieten ,

It seems that in scheduling, PSO will always allocate a task once it is sent to a particular resource. The workaround you’ve identified is the only way around it. But as you’ve correctly noticed, it means that both tasks, the one you intend to allocate and the one you only need to visualize will both have to be fixed, which impacts the scheduling flexibility of that resource.

Thanks,

Minindu

How about using Additional Attributes? This will not affect the scheduling process but don’t know it is ideal for your situation due to below factors.

  1. You cannot see an additional attribute according to a time frame in the Gannt. It is mapped to Resource. But in the additional attribute record, you can send the relevant information.
  2. Number of Additional Attributes have an effect on application server performance. If you have number of events such that number of total additional attributes are increasing more than 5, this would have an effect since PSO RnD recommends to use additional attributes as lower as possible (3-4 attributes)

Another thing is you can setup a separate activity type for such events and send them with -1 status, resource fixed and datetime fixed to. Activity duration would be the event timeframe. This will not have an effect on DSE also. In Resource Gannt you can have below view respective to the timeline but in order to view the Resource, you need to go to Activity details.

Bottleneck is that as Minindu mentioned, an activity cannot be visible in Resource Gannt, unless the it is occupied to the Resource.

Thanks both for your answer. I will check if we can use the -1 status with the activity fixed to resource and date/time, but seems like it would be our best bet.
