Manual Operation Quantity not on Manufacturing Routings

The feature of allowing an operation quantity on a shop order to be less than the lot size of the shop order was introduced in Cloud 23R2. This is controlled on individual shop order operations by the new attribute Manual Operation Qty (Yes/No). This will be beneficial when a partial quantity needs to run through a one-off rework operation on the same manufacturing shop order.

Manual Operation Qty can be set on Standard Operations, Routing Template Operations, and Routings of type Repair, Disassembly, Remanufacturing and Disposition.

Why is this feature not available on Routings of type Manufacturing? A common use case is when testing is its own operation, but the full lot size will never need tested and reported as the completed quantity. The ability to set this in the Routing rather than manually on the manufacturing shop order would be an improvement.

Hi Matt;

This option has been introduced as part of the development done for the Remanufacturing Solution.

So only those types applicable for the Remanufacturing are considered.

@matt.watters As mentioned by Dameenda the introduction of the manual operation quantity was mainly driven from the remanufacturing requirements. However, we also saw a great value of this in other processes why it was also made available for other routing types (like Repair) as well as for manufacturing shop orders.

Introducing the Manual Operation Qty toggle also on the manufacturing routing was not prioritized because it would require adding it also to Project Operations, Interim Order Operations and DOP Order Operations.

I also believe that stochastic operations would be more common in processes such as repair and remanufacturing. In manufacturing the process would normally be less stochastic. Non-conformances which would require a rework operation are at the other side common in the manufacturing processes. But would you really like to include rework operations already in the routing? wouldn’t they rather be added as-hoc to the shop order when such non-conformance is identified?

If you see a big value for adding the possibility to define operations with a manual operation quantity also for manufacturing routing, please add a request to the idea section of the community and describe the process where this would be valuable.
