Currently, an IFS Document can transition through the following states (“Status” field).

Preliminary - Approval In Progress - Approved - Released (and Obsolete)

However, Parts in IFS only have the following states available.

Preliminary - Active - Released (and Obsolete)

i.e., it is missing the “Approval in Progress” state.

can anyone explain why we don't have “Approval in Progress” state for Parts?

Regards

@SaaAvinak Objects in IFS has different states as per the different usecases and requirements that they are used. When it comes to Engineering Part, the status has the values you mentioned (PreliminaryActiveReleased or Obsolete). These parts are not going through an approval process as long as the Status is considered. So Approval In Progress is not relevant.

But in some other objects you find it. This is how it was designed.

I hope this helps !

Hi @Buddhika Kurera
Understood, although it is unfortunate that such a seemingly simple change request would require modifications to the core IFS code, don’t understand why it has been baked deep inside the software implementation. If a Document has a State Transition, a Part should be allowed to have a similar State Transition, given that both are Configuration Items!

Also

I’m having trouble trying to understand this, although I might hazard a guess. Are you suggesting that as far as Parts are considered, in IFS, the approval process is not linked to the “Status” field for a Part (unlike how it is for a Document)?

Thank you for your response,

@SaaAvinak I m quite confused now. First all trying to understand your question again.

The requirement is, you need to follow an approval process before the status of the engineering part is changed to Active, is this your requirement?
