Setting up an internal IFS Team

For a new customer rolling out / upgrading to IFS Cloud, an organization would look at filling key IFS / ERP / Integrations positions internally in order to minimize dependency on external IFS service facilitators. What are the IFS roles / supporting roles that are available within your organization to achieve this goal? What roles have to be in place additionally?

We just finished implementing IFS Cloud 22R2 in July. Key roles on the project included the following:

  • Steering committee
  • PMO
  • IT Business Analysts (by function)
  • IT Development Lead
  • IT Developers
  • IT Infrastructure Lead (for on-prem)
  • Functional Team Leads / BPOs
  • Functional Subject Matter Experts
  • IT Support Analysts
  •  IT Basic Data Administrator
  • Data Migration Lead
  • Data Migration Developers
  • Security and UI Analyst

We created 5 on-premise environments outside of BuildPlace: DEV, TEST, PROD, TRAIN and MIGR. We granted unrestricted access to all environments except for PROD. In the PROD environment, we gate unrestricted access to the IT Basic Data Administrator to complete setup. Everyone else was read-only until we were closer to go-live. We would clone basic data from PROD to MIGR and would then migrate in master data to this environment. We would then clone this to TEST and run our SAT and ORT test cycles there. Later in the project, when we began transaction migration testing, we restricted MIGR to just the data migration developers and the Finance team members who were verifying integrity of balances, totals, etc. I hope this helps.

  • Program Management Team.
  • Project Management Team.
  • Global IT PM.
  • Local Business PM.
  • Solution Architect.
  • Each Project Stream we had Local Key user and Global Key user. (Finance, HR, Purchasing etc.)
  • Data Migration Developers.
  • System Infrastructure Experts.
  • Reports / Custom Object & Events Developers.
  • Techn. Project Coordination.
