Hello

Does the HCM platform have the functionality to automatically assign the next level up reporting manager for an employee when a line manager leaves?

Thanks

Ross

Hi Ross,

In APPS9, IFS has introduced the indicator Direct Supervisor Selection in the header of the Graphical Organization Structure (only in the Aurena client and, later, in IFS Cloud, i.e. not in the IEE client). When you set that indicator to ‘Based on immediate parent position or above’, the system will skip to the first higher position which is actually assigned to someone.

The following algorithm applies:

• Your supervisor is the employee linked to the next higher position in your organizational unit.

• If the next higher position in your organizational unit is vacant or absent, it’s the employee linked to the following higher position in your organizational unit (repeated, if necessary, for all position levels until the highest one).
• If your supervisor cannot be found in your own organizational unit, the first two steps will be repeated in the next higher organizational unit (repeated, if necessary, for all higher organizational units until the highest one).

This is one of the reasons why you don’t need a complex position structure anymore: a simple diagonal which reflects the managerial levels is sufficient.

Best regards,

Martin
