Hi All,

I’m new to delivery installations and applying IFS patching.

So I thought to get your opinion before I go with a new one.

Would it be possible to know the things I need to consider before applying a delivery/release?

Currently, I’m considering the below before proceeding with the installation.

  1. Disk space
  2. Stop/pause the antivirus application
  3. Check invalid objects
  4. read the installation documentation thoroughly
  5. Start with DEV or Test first

Kindly let me know what else I need to consider for a smooth delivery.

I really appreciate your valuable suggestions/opinions and advice.

Thank you in Advance.

Hi @MitDenukN ,

Your list is a good start but I would recommend adding the following.

  1. Update the operating system so all known patches are installed.
  2. Backup the database using RMAN utility where you plan on installing the delivery.
  3. Backup the middleware environment using the backup script deployed by IFS.
  4. If you have the servers virtualized I'd take a snapshot of the virtual machines as well.

Regards,

William Klotz

Hi @william.klotz, Thank you so much for sharing those valuable points 😊

I got a question about point 3, where can I find those backup scripts to take a middleware backup, please? apologies for bothering you on this, I haven’t used them before.

@william.klotz, This is regarding the point 3,

I think you meant StartServerIFSX.cmd and StopServersIFSX.cmd in the IFSBackup folder.

First, stop servers and then take a backup of the IFS home directory and then start again using scripts.

If not kindly correct me.

Agree with all the technical points.

The key one for me is testing of the update in DEV / TEST and get end-users to test their processes (sometimes easier said than done) - both standard and the weird and wonderful (even more good look) - then make sure IT / Support check CRIMS

Hi @Matthew, Thank you so much for your suggestions and I will add these to my list 😊

Thanks again!

Hi @william.klotz and @Matthew,

Is it essential to log in as the Administrator of the middleware server to execute the installer for the delivery?

(usually, I run the installer.cmd as administrator)
