We had an old printer die on us and started to purchase HP M402dn printers. However, in their settings, you now cannot turn off sleep mode. After 8 hours it will go to sleep, no two ways about it. The printer will wake back up if you send a local job, this plays havoc with the print server as you always have to restart the Print Spooler to reconnect it on the Win2k19 server as it shows offline.

Is there any type of printer system requirements document? I was told from another SysAdmin when I was first working on the Java IFS Print Agent, you needed to have a device to support a Universal PCL 6 print driver. Is that still the case? I am trying to get something to show management that a $150 DeskJet or EcoTech printer is not the way to go. Plus, I don’t want a print driver that installs from and EXE and install more on a server than is necessary, especially when the driver does not support W2k19 specifically, but Windows 10/11.

We opened a case with IFS support, but all they provided was the how to setup .NET Printer Agent and other Printer Agent related material, but not relevant to this question/issue.
