Hi,

So I struggled for several hours trying to reinstall IFS_HOME on a particular server.

When trying to install the new IFS_HOME I got the error:

...\build_home\server\install_fndmws.xml:214: Failed to install Middelware Server! Error is: Exception when installing IFS Middleware Home: ...\ifs_home\tmp\as\resources6277372277239962574\install_fndmws.xml:480: Failed to install Middleware Server. Error is:

Which is really helpful *sarcasm*

The issue turned out to be a rogue inventory.lock file in C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\locks.

What really happened was that the installer was waiting for “the other process” to “finish their business” with Oracle Inventory. When in reality, this lock file was left behind due to the way I uninstalled the previous version of middleware server.

So if you’re looking to reinstall IFS_HOME, make sure you check this if the installer fails with the empty error message.

Thank you for sharing! This could definitely help other users.

I’ll also pass along the feedback about the error message. Maybe we can do something to make the issue more obvious!

Thanks for sharing your error. This is something I fear after an unsuccessful patch or other issue. I have seen mentioned in ‘Guidelines to Deploy Delivery to IFS Applications 9 RTM’, that if you have to deal with a failed patch deployment, it states the following:

‘If installation is based on Windows, check the Oracle product inventory which is maintained in “C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\ContentsXML\inventory.xml”, checki if it contains an entry LOC=”<IFS-Home>/<instance>/mw_home/mws” and remove that entry from the inventory.xml file before recovering the installation from the backup.’

Not necessarily the same issue, but all good information.

Thanks

Mike

Everything helps!

This could of course be the real issue, as I deleted the whole Inventory directory.

Thanks for sharing

Hi everyone

I'm having the same error message when I patch "Oracle Critical Patch Updates for Middle Tier - 2023 April " to IFS10UPD8

I removed LOC=”<IFS-Home>/<instance>/mw_home/mws”  from  “C:\ProgramFiles\Oracle\Inventory\ContentsXML\inventory.xml”,

But I still get same error

Do you have any idea ? What shoul I do next?

Thanks and best regards

Hi Community,

I was unable to proceed with this step. i was able to resolve this kind of issue by uninstalling antivirus software.
