Hi,
Accounting periods are the financial periods that we use to enter/post transactions. Reporting periods are used to create budgets or reporting purposes where you need to map accounting periods with the reporting periods. For example if your accounting periods start from April to March & reporting periods need to be from Jan to Dec, then you need to do the mapping accordingly.
