Yes, absolutely you can do nearly all the same for a financial origin project as you can do for the project management type origin.  

You cannot use the project management option where certain portions of a project would not be capitalized. That option is only available for project management type projects.  

You cannot use the activity to drive POC for a finance only project.  

You can use events, you can use actual cost, most other processes offer the same capabilities. 

I typically suggest a finance only type project for testing, it it’s faster / easier and with very few exceptions produces the exact same results.
