Is it possible to create a custom field that would allow for a working link to a network file location.

I can create a custom field where I can store a url for an internet location, and that works fine. 

But have not been able to get a network location link to work.

have tried file://path and file://///path

Currently they are using Sticky Notes for this information, which is less than IDEAL since this is not secure in that anyone can delete them, but also since sticky notes will be deprecated in Cloud, the information would not be transferable in the upgrade.

Any alternatives would be appreciated….
