A customer wants to audit function for all key columns in all tables, which they believe will cause performance issues.

From the help screen under Audit/Extract in the smart client, it states;
"The audit process records information you specify and stores it in a table named metrix_audit that you can access with any program that can access your database. This information is transactional in nature; it includes the person who made the change, the time and date of the change, the type of change, the table and field changed, and so forth.

You can create as many audit sets as you need. You must create a set for each FSM table you want to audit.”

Even though it says that you can create as many audit sets as you need, can we assure the customer that they will not have performance issues?

Hi @Ann Degroat,

I would not be surprised if heavy auditing reduced performance significantly. To my knowledge that wording has not been changed in a long time from when users did little auditing. Over time we have seen more and more users require more and more auditing and it does appear to have an impact.

The advice would be to use auditing/monitoring software if there is a heavy requirement for auditing as FSM is not designed with auditing as a first intent. There are services available from Select & Success to assist with auditing and monitoring decisions and setups.

Kind regards,

Lee Pinchbeck
