I want to retrieve data from IFS database into a Word document, e.g. work order number and task number to which the document is connected. Document is stored to IFS docman and data should be fetched when document is opened for viewing.

Is it possible to do the procedure with document macros?

Sure, that’s the main purpose of document macros.

do you have a simple guide how to configure that macro?

Search IFS Community for "document macro" or "macro" and you will find several discussions on this. Also check our documentation which have some simple example macros. Once you know how to install and run a macro, the rest is just writing the necessary VBScript code to do whatever you want to.

Also see the recording I posted recently on Workplace.

Good luck!

@Mathias Dahl : is Workplace accessible by partners (e.g. Arcwide) ? I am very keen to understand this functionality.

Sorry, no.

Did you have time to review our documentation yet? It's quite detailed on how the concept works and there are some simple examples to get you started there.
