Selecting Product Structure Alternate while performing MRP/MS in App-9

If you want MRP to select the “Alternate” product structure based on the demand quantity then I don’t think there is a standard way for that. 

However, if you want product structure to be based on dates then you can try with having different Revisions (distinguished by Phase In/Out dates).

Anyway, from APP9 onwards you have this feature called “Lost Size Based” routing. There you can setup which Routing Alternate (not Product Structure Alternate) to be used based on the Lot Size.

Now, when you run the MRP it checks the lot size quantity and selects the suitable routing alternate

Finally, if you want it to be more complicated you can explore “Configuration Routing Alternate Rules” window. Which is for configurable parts. There you can setup what components to be included in the structure based on the selected Routing alternate.
