Purchasing Lead Time question

Hello all,

I am hoping to have some elements clarified as it related to lead time calculation and MRP for IFS Purchased Parts.

On the inventory part record, the Purchasing Lead Time is calculated using the Calculate Purchase Leadtime, which takes several elements into consideration (supplier manufacturing lead time, external transport lead time, internal transport lead time, and internal inspection lead time). If this is not run, the field is blank, or a value can be entered. This seems to indicate the MRP uses the value in here for POR planning?

Would this then mean that the Supplier Manufacturing Lead Time on the SFPP is not used for MRP? If the Purchasing Lead Time is left at 0 or no value is entered, would MRP default to using the SFPP leadtime?

In this example, the PLT is set to 0 and SFPP record is set to 15 days. When MRP runs, would it default to 15 days even if there was a transport leadtime of 2 days?

Hi @cjohnson,

When you run MRP, system first check whether primary supplier exist for the part if yes, then system will calculate the Leadtime considering supplier manufacturing lead time, inspection lead time, external transport lead time, transport lead time and internal transport lead time. If there are no primary supplier, then system consider the purchase lead time mention against the inventory part.

By running Calculate purchase lead time , you can see the total lead time in inventory parts.

Hope this helps!!

@EqeMithuV So, having a Purchase Part with an Inventory Part record of 35 days for the Purchasing Lead Time:

And a Primary Supplier with a lead time of 50 days:

The system would default to 50 days, because there is a Primary Supplier defined? If there was no Primary Supplier, the system would default to 35 days when MRP was run?

Hi @cjohnson,

Yes, you are right. for primary supplier, system will consider 50 plus inspection lead time & other transport lead time mentioned in supply chain matrix if exist for the primary supplier.

@FNSMITHUN This is exactly what I was looking for. Please can you tell me what happens if you have a primary supplier set up but the lead time has not been entered and is set to 0. Inspection lead time is also 0.

Will MRP take the 0 thinking you can get this part in next day or… if 0 does it default back to the Purchase lead time on the Inventory Part?

Hi,

As soon as system finds a primary supplier for the purchase part then it will use that record information even it it is 0 supplier manuf lead time or/and if there is 0 inspection lead time.

If MRP does not find any primary supplier - when generating the PO Req Line - then the purchase lead time on inventory part will be used to calculate Latest Order Date.

Best Regards,

Mats
