Hi,

It is possible to create Two identical Serial Objects (Part no and serial no are different) in two different sites. I have shared screen shots  below.

Please explain the rationale behind this.

In the explanation under the “Object ID”, it says that the identity must be unique, as the system will not accept any duplicate of an object ID.

Hi Dinith,

You are not allowed to have the same Oject ID under same site which is the explanation of the help text. From the design, standard application allows to have same serial object ID for 2 different sites. This is not causing any harm in the standard application because there is no functionality to move serial objects between sites, and therefore, having same serial object ID in 2 different sites is not causing any trouble in standard application.

Hope this helps.

Yasanthi

Hi Yasanthi,

‘’A serial equipment object, in contrast to a functional object, may be moved around in the facility, or placed into inventory, and is therefore called a movable serial object. A movable serial object could for example be an electrical motor, a pump, a valve or anything else suitable for relocation into different positions in the facility. Serial equipment objects can also be of the non-movable type, such as turbines or any other very large pieces of equipment which will most likely not be moved from their locations. Non-movable serial objects can be registered as functional objects. For these types of functional object you can also define part numbers and serial numbers, just like any other serial objects, but the object's position in the structure cannot be changed’’

According to this explanation serial objects can be moved between the sites. for examples like repairing. Will that be possible?

Nipun

@Nipun Gunaratne : As per the above explanation it can be moved within facility. ‘Current Position’ field displays where the serial object is currently located. For example, it can be in facility, in inventory, in repair workshop etc. From ‘Move Serial Object’ functionality, you can move a serial object from one place to another in the equipment object structure. This allows you to freely move serials around in the facility. So this will allow you to place the serial object under a new superior object which can be in a different site of course. But that does not mean the serial object’s original site can be moved (changed).

Hope this answers your question.

Hi Dinithi,

“It is possible to create Two identical Serial Objects (Part no and serial no are different) in two different sites.”

YES, this is possible, but in different sites. As per the currant design Object ID (MCH_CODE) and the Site (CONTARCT) are the Primary Keys for either Functional Object or Serial Object.

If functional/industrial perspective having identical Object ID  should be facilitate in the application.

“In the explanation under the “Object ID”, it says that the identity must be unique, as the system will not accept any duplicate of an object ID.”

Object ID is unique per site now.  There Could be identical Object ID in different sites.

“So this will allow you to place the serial object under a new superior object which can be in a different site of course. But that does not mean the serial object’s original site can be moved (changed). “

‘Moving Serials’ - actually this is a gray zone in the application for the moment. when if you move an Object in site B undereaten an Object in site A.  Object moves in the structure but you will notice that original site remains as it is. Technically, this kind of physical movement won’t  facilitate by the existing technical design.  Although, structure cost of the  Object in site B accumulates to the Object in site A since the connection been made.

So How this movement happen?: There could be different object structures per object.

functional, locational, electrical, pipe etc. during the above move movement it update the superior/parent Object (to Object in site A) of the Object in site B.

Hope this gives you some understanding for your concerns.

Thanks & Kind regards,

You may have the scenario where the Serial object is returned to Warehouse after repair. This serial object may there after be sold to the other company ( in site 90 as in the example) will this be impossible as the the seral already exist in site 90, or will the full history of the item be available in the new stie?

It should be possible to move an serial object between sites.
