During our customer consignment process our customers report back what has been consumed/sold, this process is manual and tracked on a spreadsheet. As you can imagine at time lot numbers and/or serial numbers are not correct. 

We are looking to get our customers barcoded technology that will allow them to scan the products at time of consumption. Has anyone utilized barcode scanners with IFS to report consignment? If, so what barcode scanners are you using and how does your process work as they report/scan the material?

There are basically two types of scanners.

  1. One that reads barcodes (QR-code) and translates it as a string of characters that is send to the screen. It acts as a keyboard. What you have to scan is shown on a screen or on a report.
  2. A scanner that has the option to have an app up and running. WaDaCo is an example of such an app. It has the option to store multiple lines of characters and shows data from IFS. So it informs you what to do as well (think of pick 2 pieces of part X from location Y).

What I see as a solution is that customer gets access to your IFS environment (be it regular screen or B2B option (if it exists)) and enteres the sold/consigned stock in that screen.

Another way would be that the sold/consigned goods are in the spreadsheet and are exported to IFS. This can be done via csv or in a more modern (more development needed) via SOAP (as you mention this is for Apps10). The last will mean that you have to discuss communication techniques with the customer on how you want to receive the data. You still have to make sure that the data is correctly processed in IFS via the SOAP link.
