In our manufacturing company we often have parts that are damaged when completing a shop order. I found there is a way to report scrap on the shop order, but it does not post to the GL. I see posting control M47 - scrapping in operation - but it does not post anything. Why is it not posting to the GL? If there is not a way to track it in the GL, is there a report that can be run to see how much was scrapped on each shop order in a desired period? Is there another suggested way to scrap inventory outside of the “Scrapping in inventory” function? <--- this is not a simple way in our business model if we have scrap from each manufacturing shop order.

You have reported scrap of a component on the shop order. I.e., you will need to issue an additional component which will result in a higher material cost on the shop order, but it doesn’t create any inventory transaction or postings.

If you rather scrap an entire product produced on the shop order, it will generate an inventory transaction with postings. The value of this transactions will be the WIP up to the operation where the scrap is reported. You can report scrap from pages such as Shop Order Operations Reporting and Shop Floor Workbench

in the example - we wouldnt want to scrap the item manufactured in the shop order. The item was manufactured, but had damaged components in the creation. So i dont think this works.

As it relates to the screens provided - we dont have the Shop Order Operations reporting. Is it cause we use the APP and not cloud based IFS?

Dear Morgan,

Once you issue any component(s) against any Shop Order then all those component(s) becomes WIP and since, WIP(s) are just hypothetical entities in IFS Cloud/IFS APP created by system itself just for WIP cost buildup/calculations while Shop Order execution.

The system would not create any Inventory Transaction history for Component Scrap since it is WIP and we dont have separate Inventory Part code for WIP(s).

Scenario would be same even if you do not have Shop Order Operation reporting (Shop Order Operation Reporting screen is available in IFS APP versions also) and you are reporting Component Scrap from Shop Order material tab.

Please refer Manufacturing Material History screen if you want to extract a report for Component scrap reporting for a given period of time. Please refer below screenshot :
