We have a requirement to show shipment weight and dimensions on our shipping documentation (currently the Delivery Note).  The issue we have is that the weights and dimensions vary by shipment method.  If we are shipping by LTL, 10-20 boxes are shrink wrapped onto a pallet so the weight includes the pallet weight.  If we are shipping next day, each box is placed in a outer shipping box so the weights vary.

How do other companies handle this?

Hi,

It is different Handling Unit structures that are used in the shipment that controls the weight and volume of the load you are shipping. In your example, the shipment using LTL shipping would have a HU structure that puts the wrapped items in to the pallet.

So the shipment weight would capture the tare weight defined for the pallet in the gross weight.

For a quick delivery, the HU structure for shipment is different, thus the weight of the shipment is different.

Standard IFS shipment delivery report prints the gross weight and volume so you can use the same information in your own delivery note.

Hope this helps
