We have a few questions related to BOM & Product setup (running Astea v14.5)

  1. When an existing customer machine (installed item) is upgraded/retrofitted in the field, the installed item is updated to reflect most of these changes and the Product ID remains the same.  If we have a new BOM for the upgraded components, what options are there to have this pulled into the installed item?
  2. When we manufacture and release a “version 2” of an existing product ID, is there a way to have a separate BOM -- one for version 1, and another for version 2 -- on the same product ID?
  3. We have found there is a section for “version” information on the Product ID but have determined any related functionality.  Does this setting have any additional functionality?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Nick,

These are my answers for your questions and they apply to both v14.5 and v15.4.

  1. Mobile users can update the the components for an installed item.  However there is no standard process to move the Product Center/BOM components to the Components for an installed items.  The components are created on the installed item when the item is created, but there is no process to update it after the first time.
  2. Yes there is, on Product Center/BOM/Bill of Materials page the components can be entered multiple times, one for each version as long as the version is an integer.
  3. The information in the Product Center/Replacements/Versions is information only and it is not used by Alliance in any way.

I hope that this is the information you were looking for.

Thank you Jacques for providing this information.
