Please note that the Android 16 Operating System is NOT CERTIFIED for use with the Astea Mobile application.  Mobile technicians SHOULD NOT UPGRADE to this operating system version at this time.
Thanks,
Reid

You can side-load the app in the following manner (if you don’t have any MDM software installed/configured on the device):

To do this, open up the Google Chrome app on the mobile device and browse to the following URL:

https://qac.astea.com/AsteaMobileEdge/install.html

Click on the "Android Client" link on that screen.

You may get a "File might be harmful.  Do you want to download AsteaMobile.apk anyway?" message.

If so, click on "Download anyway".

Wait a couple of seconds for the download to complete.

If you get a Chrome popup window that says "For your security, your phone currently isn't allowed to install unknown apps from this source.  You can change this in Settings." Click on the Settings button and enable the "Allow from this source" toggle temporarily.

When you see the screen that says "Astea Mobile - Do you want to install this app?" click on Install.

Wait for the installation to complete, then launch the app and you'll be taken to the Enter Server Address screen as normal.

Thanks,

Reid

Hi Reid,

sorry to ask again, but is there any update available? We have some FME’s which are waiting for a “go” to update to Android 16

An update would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Torsten

Hi Bart,
It means that R&D won’t fix issues directly related to that particular Operating System (until it’s been certified).
Thanks,
Reid

Not specific to Android 16 (there’s the issue with the App not appearing in the Play Store which R&D is currently investigating but that impacts older versions of Android as well).
Thanks,
Reid

Hi Bart, I don’t have an ETA from R&D yet...once they get the app not showing in the Play Store issue resolved then they’ll be able to provide an ETA for the OS Certification.
Thanks,
Reid

Hi. Just want to provide some clarification based on my experience. Astea Mobile was installed on my previous phone running Android 14. My new phone uses Android 16, and all apps were automatically copied during the setup process. I didn’t need to reinstall Astea Mobile, and it works on Android 16.

The Android 16 Operating System is now certified for use with the standard Astea Mobile application, be sure to run an upgraded device through your test scripts if you have a customized environment to ensure that all of your custom code is working properly as well (then promote the OS upgrade out to the technicians devices).  The R&D team is still working on a separate issue with the Native App not appearing in the Google Play store (once I have an ETA on that I will update this thread).
Thanks,
Reid
