IFSv10, Update 20, Oracle 19. Enterprise Edition.We have seen some issues with our Customer Order screen since upgrading from v9 to v10.The symptom is that occasionally when a user queries the Customer Order screen, it will throw an ‘System Exception Error’ (see bottom screenshot).We found that the user then needs to open a new window to continue working in IFS.We have since found that the user can right click on the effected window - Custom Objects - Reload Configuration. Which has now made me suspect one of our many Custom Fields may be causing the issue?Now I am investigating our Custom Fields and have noticed that nearly all custom fields in the associated _CFV have a data length of varchar2 4000, despite many be much smaller than this in the Custom Fields screen in IFS? Is this normal? FYI Original Error causing investigation:
IFSv10 Update 20. Oracle 19c. 440 Global Users.We have a few users that seem to experience a timeout, where by IFS appears to be fetching data, but this does not return until what feels like around 5mins. Some users are based in our US office, one in the UK and a few from home… Very random with the exception to it being related to IFS.We have looked into many reasons that might cause this issue.One area we feel we should explore is the 300 second timeout found in the IFS Middleware Server Admin Console - Common - HTTP Servers, Configuration screen.Has anyone altered this value? For what reason, and did it have the desired effect?My thinking is, perhaps we change this to 100 seconds…. Very much a stab in the dark, but keen to know if this is directly associated with the wait users are experiencing.RegardsMike
We are on Appsv9, and have just applied update 16. We have noticed that on occasions, Print Manager is erroring with ‘No PDF report returned from Crystal Web Service’. Obviously this is only on documents that are generated via Crystal Web Service. We have 3 x Crystal Web Services running and as far as I can remember, we have not seen this issue in Apps v9 before. The error in the Crystal Web Service log is: 18/03/2020 15:23:06[IFSCRWebSetupIFS9Lb]-[GetSavedPDFReport] The web instance is busy. The request will be forwarded to the next available instance. Has anyone else had this? has anyone seen this behaviour after an update? (we were on update 12). My guess would be to create a couple more Web services, but i suspect something somewhere has changed, for this to become a problem now. I believe we are only seeing this when the system is busy. Hi AllAfter upgrading to IFS10 (Update 15) from IFS9 some of our users that occasionally are getting a hard error when querying the Customer Order screen? I am 99% sure that when we clear the users Personal Profile, it clears the error. The difficulty is users that have years of alterations in this and other areas who do not want their profiles cleared.Has anyone else worked with this issue and may have a solution or workaround?ThanksMikeNote: We haven't managed to get the View Detail script of the error yet.

Hi AllWe are only a couple of weeks away from going live with Apps10, upgrading from Apps9.On Apps 9 we ran a two node clustered Middleware setup, both nodes running 2 Middleware Server Services (4 in total). This was for our userbase of 400 users (Around 130 Concurrent Users). The system has run well, albeit potentially over complicated (especially when patching etc).We have decided to ditch the clustered nodes in favour of one sole MW Server.My question is, do you think running with One node and only one ‘MainServer’ Managed Server is acceptable for our user base? in comparison to what you have seen….Any thoughts, or comparisons to what you are running with for Apps10 would be appreciated.ThanksMikeOS: WindowsDB: Oracle 19 (Local physical) 600GbMW: Apps10 (Local Virtual)Userbase: 400 global users (130 concurrent)
Hi AllWe are upgrading from Apps9 to Apps10. We have around 400 users globally with roughly max of 250 at any point in time.With Apps9 we have a clustered Application server of two nodes, each node runs two managed servers (and a Admin server and http server), so that is four ManagedServers in total.For simplicity, we have decided to move away from the clustered setup. I am interested in anyone who has a Apps10 single node setup. How many ManagedServers run on your single node Application Server?ThanksMike

(IFSv9 UPD16, Oracle 12, Windows Server)HiWe are currently putting a proposal together for an upgrade from IFS v9 to IFS v10.Our current IFS v9 Middleware is clustered with 2 nodes. We have never had performance concerns, or any situations that required us to run with just one node. The only benefit we have seen has been where of the four running Managed Servers, 3 have stopped over time before we noticed by chance.As those who have a clustered setup know, there is some additional maintenance when it comes to Patching IFS, Patching OS, and there are considerations to be made regarding Load balancer, Single sign on setup and general troubleshooting.Our MW servers now and going forward are virtual and a part of an ESX farm, so DR and HA are not a concern in my opinion.I am thinking of dropping the cluster setup when we move to IFSv10.What are your thoughts/Experiences?Any advice or experiences shared would be greatly appreciated.ThanksMike
Hi All We are on IFSv9 (Oracle 12c) and have yet to utilise the In-Memory functionality. Our database is roughly 500Gb in total size, with 470 global users. We have 300Gb of free RAM on our physical database host waiting to be used. I would love to know if you have made use of In-Memory. Did you see a measurable improvement on performance within IFS and more importantly if there are known pitfalls I should avoid. Would love to hear your experience of this feature, good and bad. Hi AllI think since time began (versions 2003, 7.5 and now 9) we have had a single process for all Batch Queues except for the Fast Queue, which has two!I believe I have seen the Deliver function lock itself a few times, as in the fast queue two Deliver transactions can run at the same time. I feel this queue should only have 1 process, if any jobs within have the potential to lock, when running at the same time?Does anyone out there have a Batch Queue with more than one process? if so, what functions do you have in that Queue?Also, we have two Touch Apps queues, but do not currently use touch apps. Has anyone removed/deactivated these? I assume as it is not running it wont hold a process? or perhaps it does?Any advice or just your experience of Batch Queue would be appreciated. I have seen other results on here regarding how many processes set in Oracle etc… that is not a concern for us.ThanksMike
Hi AllWe are running: IFS v9 (update16)I have been changing all of our Internal System passwords.The last account that I am unsure of is IFSWEBCONFIG. Although there is no option to change the password in the installer as per the other Internal passwords (IFSPRINT, IFSCONNECT, IFSSYS, IFSPLSQLAP, IFSADMIN), the IFSWEBCONFIG password does appear encrypted in the configuration.xml log with the others?I was hoping that this password could just be changed at the backend, but seeing it in here makes me think perhaps it would require a reconfigure? Is this encrypted password used elsewhere?Any experiences or advice would be appreciated.ThanksMike
We run IFS Apps9 Update16. We have 2 Application servers hosting 4 Managed Servers in a IFS Application clustered configuration.We are looking to change the IFSSYS password via the installer change password option, but I am wondering if the new password change will be pushed through to the 2nd App Server Host? or would I need to recreate the clustered install/manually intervene in some way?We have tested the usual change, but our test system is still not yet clustered.Would be good to hear from any other clustered users.ThanksMike
99% of our user base use single sign on to authenticate into the IFS Applications. There are a small number of IFS users that use the Demand Planner client, and as Single Sign on is not an option for Demand Planner, these users need to know their IFS/Oracle password.As we have strengthened all user IFS/Oracle passwords these demand planner users need to be able to change their own oracle/ifs passwords themselves.I can see an option in the Demand Planner to Change Password, but it is greyed out. I assume this is related to the reason why our users cannot click on the Change Password button in the Application login screen?Does anyone know how we can allow a user to change their own IFS/Oracle password? or is this something that is unavailable due to our IFS Single Sign on setup?Any help or discussion appreciated.ThanksMike
Hi AllWe are on IFS9.We had applied Update 17 to our test environment back in March/April. We recently refreshed Test with a backup of the Live database. Now we were hit with something I haven't seen since our earlier versions of IFS. We now have a mismatch between the Application and the database. e.g. wrong number of arguments... (yes, I should have spotted this, but furlough etc...)Obviously the middleware is at Up17 and the database as per live is Up16.Can I run the Update patch against the database only?? by checking only the option ‘Deploy database files’? Has anyone else had to do this? We used to see similar issues back when we ran executables, and often a user would be using the same executables for both Live and Test, of which were often at different patch levels.Surprisingly we have not hit this issue for years, i think because we would normally test the Update, and apply to Live fairly quickly afterwards. With Furlough etc, we have not kept up with this.Any advice would be
Hi AllWe are running IFSv9 Upd16 on Oracle 12c.Is there a way to see user activity? We would like to know what our users are doing and how often etc.. This will give us a clearer picture of who and when users are on the system and which transactions individuals are involved with most often.I suspect there isnt an out of the box solution to this, as I am sure I would have tripped over it already.Perhaps there is a backdoor to such information?Any guidance is appreciated.ThanksMike
I recall when moving to IFS Apps v9, we were sold on the fact that future version upgrades would be much easier! We moved from IFSv7.5 to IFSv9 in early 2018. Although it went without a hitch, it was no small project from an IT or Business point of view. We now see that IFsv9 is nearing the end of its standard 5 year support phase, moving into extended support in Mar 2020 (We were obviously a bit late to the v9 party!). Is there anyone out there who have upgraded from v9 to v10. Was this a straight forward upgrade? Did you stay with your original Oracle version? What was the impact on users? Vague request for information I know, so happy to receive vague discussion/answers. FYI: We are a manufacturing business, multiple sites worldwide, around 400 users, Hosted on-prem, Oracle 12c. Hi All I would love to know how you backup your IFS_HOME on the Application Server before applying an IFS Patch or IFS Patch Update? For clarity, I am running IFS version 9 on a Windows Server environment. Now I have never needed to restore the IFS home after a failed update in our current version of IFS (did I just say that!?), so this has led me to wonder if my post patch safety net will save me in my time of need? I have in the past intended to back up the IFS home, using 7-zip (due to crazy path and file name lengths that windows cant handle). When I get to do this, during our tight window of opportunity, it just takes way too long. FYI: It is 23Gb in size. So I don’t bother and decide to rely upon the seemingly effortless Virtual server snapshot taken by our super network boys…… Now is this going to cut the mustard when/if my patch fails? We have successfully completed a DR exercise using these backups/snapshots, so it should work? Even if I did wait for the zip backup of the IFS
Hi All We applied Update 15 and 16 to our Live APPS v9 environment this past weekend. Our users have reported that when they attempt to attach a Document (in this case a PDF, but does the same for all) to a Customer Order (and possibly other records), they receive the following error: This was not the case before applying the latest updates. Checking the defined extensions, all looks fine: Has anyone else seen this issue after applying the recent updates? The issue is also in out Test instance, but we clearly missed this one from our testing! Regards Mike
Hi All I noticed whilst testing the application of Update 15+16 to our Apps 9 test environment, that after completion, I got the dreaded single sign on Security Error message (see below). Ok, I am sure it is not always SSO that causes this rather generic error, but thats when I tend to see it. If I manually type the domain username/password it works. After previous updates I had not seen this issue. I found that running a straight reconfigure without changes resolved this issue, but find it a little alarming. Has anyone else seen this behaviour after applying 15 or 16? SSO scares me! :( Regards Mike
