I think the ADODB stuff may be more OLEDB than ODBC, but I cannot test in my Excel because it is 64 bit and I have the 32-bit driver installed. @ZIGESAMMWe also use Oracle Instant Client (OIC) from both Visual FoxPro and C#/.NET. This what the connection string looks like: DRIVER={Oracle in instantclient_19_6};DBQ=IFS10DEVDB01:1521/IFSDEV;UID=IFSAPP;PWD=<password> This is ODBC, not OLEDB. But it works the same way, just need to know the connection string (I figured it out by looking at the connection strings in SQL Developer, and the above does not need anything with regard to TNS -- it just uses IP address and port). “IFS10DEVDB01” is the server (which could also be an IP address), 1521 is the port, and “IFSDEV” is the Oracle SID. “IFSAPP” is the user, and the password is obvious.Also note this session would be running in “god” mode, because it is logging in with the App Owner user ID.Here’s how we do it, from scratch:If user does not have OIC installed, we copy a folder called “instantclient_19_6” from the network to a known spot on the user’s local drive, such as C:\Apps\Oracle\instantclient_19_6. A function that can accept SQL statements and return the results in a table format

@Himasha Abeywickrama I am not sure I understand the question… Does the customer want to do reporting? Performing an SQL statement and getting back data is what a Quick Report does, or one can create an IAL or Lobby data source to return data.If you mean an Oracle facility to take any string and execute it, I would wonder why that is desirable? SQL can already perform very advanced queries where you can return almost anything you can imagine, including hierarchical, pivoted, and list-aggregated data. Throw in some WITH statements, sub-selects, and API calls and there isn’t much you can’t do.In PL/SQL code, you can write code that returns datasets via things like dynamic querying, ref cursors, and pipelining. IFS Apps 10 database cloning best practices

Definitely things to be aware of, and we are very careful to write integrations and custom objects such that we use #DB_SID# and not just hardcoded values (like “PROD”). All of our App Owner and Info accounts use the same user IDs across all environments.Still several changes that need to be done post-clone, for sure, and we generally run an MWS reconfigure and also a reconfiguration of Touch Apps in our TEST environment (which is Touch App enabled)..But once we scripted and documented all that, clones from PROD to DEV and PROD to TEST work well and we we end up with safe environments in which to proceed with development and testing. IFS Apps 10 database cloning best practices

One way to do it is via the backups you are taking from your PROD environment.For example, we have “hot” backups that are created every night in PROD so that we can recover in case of disaster. The additional benefit of these backup sets is that RMAN can be used to clone the database from one server to another, and it does not require PROD to be shutdown to do so. Data is from the previous night, of course, but that’s OK.We had a consultant write Windows BAT files that handle database shutdowns, start-ups, and the RMAN script to pull in the backup sets into our TEST and DEV environments, representing a clone of PROD. The scripts also run some post operations, like setting a banner message and cleaning up whatever needs cleaning up.This has been effective for us, and as I mentioned, it allows PROD to stay up the whole time. If you have a consultant you trust with the rider Oracle/RMAN knowledge, they should be able to create something for you that you can then run on your own. Thanks,Jo

DB Performance slows down after installing UPD14

Could it be that data (due to the update or other influx) changed recently? We have found that when we refresh large mounts of data (e.g. thousands of records in a CLU) that queries take longer until Oracle optimizes things. I am not really much of an Oracle tuning expert, though, but are the queries getting better over time? Can you manually run the queries several times and see if their performance increases? EVENT error with a "custom error"

@TheoB It looks like there is an error in your Custom Event PL/SQL. Can you post the block of code?You can also try simplifying the block to just the Record_General line surround by BEGIN and END; and see if that works. If it does, then slowly add more code and keep testing it. You are not seeing your error because a different error is encountered before your code is reached, is my guess. Thanks,Joe Kaufman

Hi @sutekh137 I tried this solution on IFS Cloud 21R2, it is not working. Does this solution works only in IEE? ... The parameters - I also tried removing quotes, replacing comma with semi-colon, nothing is working. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also, what exactly do you mean, “nothing is working”? Are you getting an error, or just always no data is returned? If you try a single value in the IN does it work? Joe Kaufman

@Rohit Sorry, I am not going to be of much help -- I am all IEE, very little Aurena experience except to know any time I try something more advanced I fail at it. If something doesn’t work in Aurena, it just doesn’t work, and I have rarely found a workaround.You might get better help by posting a new thread that points to this one, then describe again what you are trying to do in Aurena. More and more folks are moving to Cloud, so hopefully someone has experience trying to do what you are doing… Thanks,Joe Kaufman

@ronhu I copied the expression into a new test scheduled task, it checked successfully, then saved successfully.The next run time was 15 minutes into the future, as the expression would dictate. I even changed the minutes to 25 and after I saved, the next execution time was 25 minutes into the future.So, it is working for me. Are you sure some weird characters didn’t get in the expression when you copied it from another schedule? Can you paste the expression into a text editor that can display unprintable characters and make sure nothing strange is in there, such as a tilde instead of a single quote?Alternately, copy the text from your post above and paste it in again. Doing that worked for me, so I am not sure why it wouldn’t work for you… We are on Apps 10, Update 15, I believe. Thanks,Joe Kaufman

@ronhu So what is the full expression? And when you say it is a valid one, are you saying IFS states it is valid, but it errors out when it runs?I assumed you were seeing the error when you click “Check”?If I can have the full expression I can play around with a scheduled task and see if I get the same error. @ronhu I think the error is telling you what it needs -- the expression needs to be a date result.If I run the expression you have in a SELECT statement:SELECT CASE EXTRACT(DAY from sysdate) AS Expression FROM Dualthis statement does not even run. If I use this expression:SELECT EXTRACT(DAY from sysdate) AS Expression FROM Dualit runs and returns an integer representing the current day of the current month. The result is not a date, though.Finally, if I do this:SELECT TRUNC(sysdate) AS Expression FROM DualI get today’s date back (time portion will be zeroed out due to the TRUNC).What result do you want to get from the expression? I don’t know about invoices, but you can print Purchase Orders through methods discussed here: We successfully did something of this nature to generate a purchase order PDF then attach it to an Outlook email for a user to manually send wherever they wished (required a custom integration written in C#, of which we are doing many). @mmol Mainly to give this a bump (because I am interested in this as well), but yes, on some other threads the un-reliability of Client_Sys.Add_Info has been remarked upon. It just isn’t implemented in all spots, so if you want to trigger an informative message for an LU where it isn’t in play, you are out of luck.However, I was all but certain that Cloud BPA supports all sorts of richer client experiences, including warnings and the ability to get further input from the user (LOV choices, yes/no/cancel choices, etc.). Surely there is some other validation type that doesn’t terminate the flow as an error condition, or perhaps even lets the user decide whether to proceed with the save? I remember being at least marginally impressed by an introductory video on IFS Cloud BPA, and that was from well over a year ago. Cloud is supposedly advancing all the time...If IFS Cloud BPA does not offer a more robust client experience (as in, everything is still an error or it isn’t) then there isn’t

@paguin I ended up writing a BAT file that could run mvs-svr and dump the contents to a text file. I then call that BAT file from a Schedule Windows Task, and process the text from a custom application. If someone employed advanced PowerScript techniques, that could all be done in one script, I imagine.In looking at the scheduled task, I see I do not use a BAT file (but I could). The Windows scheduled task directly calls the mws-svr command file and pipes output to a log file at a networked location. The command looks like this: D:\ifsdev\mws-svr.cmd action=status target=all password={IFSSYS password} > "\\DellFS01\F Drive\Apps\Global\IFS MWS Status\IFSDEV.log" We are piping to a UNC that is our main file server. An automated application task (written in Visual Foxpro) then parses the file once every hour, looking for strings like “RUNNING” or “STOPPED”. I can provide more details on that if you are interested, but I don’t generally assume FoxPro code is all that useful to most folk

I am guessing you need to play around with CHR(10) and maybe even a combination of CHR(13) and CHR(10).When I pull an Address from Customer_Info_Address and show symbols in Notepad++, it looks like this: That’s a carriage return and line feed, so I think you need CHR(13) || CHR(10). Can you place a literal value directly in the JSON? I am not familiar with how Postman populates the variables in the curly braces, nor where those are defined. Can you see the actual JSON that is getting passed to IFS and verify it is the value you expect (using something like Fiddler to look at network traffic)? Read-Only Database Access for Analysts and Power Users

Just to add my two cents with regard to, “...we want to move away from direct access to the DB. Writing raw SQL against our tables/views is not a recommended pattern anymore either.”:I agree with not writing data to IFS via “raw” INSERT or UPDATE statements, but using the Package API calls is 100% safe (and always should be, right?). The Packages provide all the same logic that IEE and Aurena end up using anyway, and that PL/SQL provides the foundations to just about everything.I would not be able to do our data migrations without direct access to the database, as there have been things I could not get working via the REST API, and even if I did, I imagine performance would be not-good. The Data Migration Toolkit is not flexible enough to run migrations where the spec is fluid and lots of changes have to be made rapidly. The MTK is not very good at, “reset data and do it all again”, so we’d be doing multiple clones per day to achieve the iterations we need. Thanks,Joe Kaufman

If/Then in a Custom Field Select Statement

Sounds like a use case for COALESCE or NVL -- if one field is null, take the other. You would still have to perform a query to link to both tables, though so that both values could be checked. That might be processor-intensive since it still needs to do all the work.Oracle doesn't have anything like an IIF() (immediate IF) keyword, but you can read the documentation on DECODE() and CASE expressions for that sort of processing.Thanks,Joe Kaufman

Is it possible to create a pop-up window that contains options within IFS?

You are at a similar spot that we are.In order to emulate IFS-native popups, I have written our own WinForms screens, and all users have the Oracle Instant Client installed. That uses ODBC to access and write data. (We do all data writes via IFS API packages, never direct INSERTs or UDPATEs.)There are downsides to that. For one thing, all integrations run under App Owner, so we have to be careful about who can see the integration screens, because they are working outside of permission sets at that point.Next, the integrations use WinForms, which is old. Your web app idea is definitely better.If you would like to avoid the need for Oracle client software you could embed the IFS Data Access provider in your application, assuming it is written in .NET. I wish I had explored the Data Provider layer more before moving forward with ODBC, but I already had the whole ODBC framework up and running before I realized I could have developed something more embedded/elegant.If you go the web applica
